We had a single shot 20 guage in the rod box. The big man was fast. It was going to get in the boat ..... Bro knocked that snake silly.. We still laugh about that.

When I used to bowfish, I had a single shot .410. When I used to shoot fish from a boat, it was a 12 foot Jon boat and a q-beam. Nothing like you see these days. My set up was the shooter up front and the guy behind the shooter had the pole and q-beam. With that much weight on the bow of a small boat, the bow was inches from the surface. Many times, the guy up front would look down and a snake would be right there between the knees because of the light. Most snake shots were about a foot to maybe 2 feet way. On a bad night, you would hear the thud in the back of the boat from one that would fall from the trees. That part of the boat was dark so it was a mad rush to find it. We had a snake pole to fish that issue out of the boat and hit it with the .410.

I miss those days a lot.

I made my reel out of a Folgers can, a funnel and a light bulb from a q-beam. The line would wrap around the Folgers can, the end of the can had a funnel in it with the light bulb and a spring kept it tight for the light bulb. Really cool set up.

Anyway...a .410 is a great snake gun.

Impressive!

More so if it's a handgun!

I can split a match at 10 yards with my pellet handgun... But from a fixed position and fixed Target.

Might have to grab these Snakes by the back of the neck and then do them execution-style. It's just such a difficult shot that I can't imagine if you made it that it wasn't just by luck. Will not stop me from trying though.

I got this,
First thing you should do when you get a gun like that out of the box it came in or out of a dumpster or wherever you get it is cut the sights off.
Practice shooting with both eyes open and focused on a target big enough that you can hit it more than you miss. Target can be a five gallon bucket or a ping pong ball, doesn't really matter as long as you can hit it more than miss it.
After about ten thousand rounds or so when you are hardly ever missing the target, swap to a target about half the size and repeat the process until you hardly ever miss the half size target.
Repeat the process of reducing target size by half until your target is about the size of the ammo your shooting with.
Never end a practice session on a missed shot.
If you find yourself struggling to hit more than you miss, step back up the target size until your hitting good then continue decreasing target size until you are consistently hitting a target the same size as your ammo.
IF, during the process you find that you're missed shots are hitting mostly to the right or left, tie a piece of small string, or large rope vertically and shoot at it until you can hit it more than you miss. size the string or rope like the target and decrease size according to weather or not you can hit it.
If your missed shots are most frequently above or below the target, practice shooting at a horizontal piece of string or rope until you can hit it more than you miss and size it so you can hit it like previously described.
When you get to the point to where you are consistently hitting ammo size targets, move onto practicing shooting at moving targets big enough to hit more than you miss. A good moving target could be something like a post it note taped to a hoola hoop and rolled across the yard. Do this until you are consistently hitting ammo size moving targets.
When you get to the point to where you are consistently hitting ammo size moving targets, then start practicing shooting at moving targets while you are moving yourself. This could be done on a bicycle but a unicycle would be better. Maybe lay some 2 X 4s and bricks in your travel path to create elevation changes in your movement and practice until you are consistently hitting ammo size moving targets while you yourself are moving at various rates of speed and direction.

The objective of all this practice is to train yourself to shoot exactly where you are looking. Remember, both eyes open and focused on the target. No matter how the target is moving or how you are moving as long as you are shooting where you are looking and both eyes are focused on the target, you can't miss.

It's simple, just not easy, but you can do it.

I first learned with an airsoft 1911. I bet I shot 25000 rounds through. Actually it was more than 1 of the same gun. I wore them out. I found I could do the same with very little practice on a real 1911. For those of you who really want to learn to shoot a pistol. Buy an airsoft version of your pistol. They are about 100 bucks. Keep it with you at the house. Buy 2000 rounds of ammo with the goal being to shoot it all up in a few weeks. Then buy another 2000 rounds. Keep plinking in the yard, I guarantee you if you move away from the sights that you can pick up things quickly. You will develop the ability to see where it will hit without pulling the trigger. It is not 100 percent, but it will surprise you. Once you develop it with any gun, you have it. It is there from nerf to paintball. Moving targets is where it gets fun. The airsoft will take out a squirrel, but it is the equivalent of a .243 on a deer.

I didn't know they made a small handgun .410 style. That's the gun to get, Nathan. Get me one, too, and we might get the quantity buy discount. I've broken way too many rods on the side of the boat trying to steer those brave, protective, slimy, heart-attack makers away. I hate 'em all and I will try and kill every one I see.....even a gardener.
