Abbott excuse to not do it is BS. They could easily stipulate that anyone that has protested and got it lowered could keep the lower rate. How many have actually lowered below last year's appraised value? Schools have been shut down so operating costs are down. It is time that government learned to run like a business and cut the tax and spend mentality. Private business has cut spending. It is time for government to also cut.

Texas’s property taxes are really the only issue I have with the way government works here. But it needs to be changed. It sucks.

Teachers, county and State employees are still getting paid, whether they are working or not. Not sure expenses really decreased by much.

I hear everything thing you are saying but I don't think it will ever change here. In my experience Govt. doesn't ever grow smaller.

Agreed

Houses are no longer cheap anymore, I would say a starter house cost around 300K to 400k in my area. Look at around 8K property tax per year per house.

They have a Homestead Exemption which is only like 25K, big deal that is nothing compared to house prices the last ten years have doubled.

Abbott keeps saying property tax reform, I haven't seen anything from him regarding this

we will see when the actual tax bills come out. They passed the law to cap it but I think they were just blowing smoke up our butts.

Everyone complains about School Taxes.
How much fun have you been having teaching your kids at home?
Do you really want to start paying teachers by the hour rather than annual salaries?

Look at Florida, specifically Miami/Dade County.

So the teachers are not teaching and they are still getting paid?

I thought they were all working doing online.

Teaching gig ain't a bad gig at all, you start out at 50K per year and only work like 9 month per year, and get every known holiday off paid plus some made up Holidays like spring and winter break.

Yep, my daughter is a paraprofessional at Mesquite high. Specifically a math tutor. MISD is paying teachers but not other staff. I have heard that some school districts are paying paraprofessionals. Hopefully she is student teaching this fall.

Welcome to the Displaced Texans Club! I installed a flag pole in my front yard so that I can fly the Texas flag. (Texas Tech during football season).

Paying School Taxes are especially uncomfortable when you never had any children.

The Ones I see walking down the road don't look like they are in training to become rocket scientists.

I think if you have children in school and getting free day care for each of those crumb snatcher, you need to pay so much per child per year.
