As for a newcomer nightfishing, it is very easy to get disoriented. GPS helps but please listen to the others that have said to move slow. If you're going to Fork, I'd say pick a creek and fish your way out to the main lake point.
TBassYates, I would totally agree with your Fork moon perspective. I spent hundreds of nights fishing Fork in the early 90's. I didn't keep a log but am in agreement that the no moon phase was best. All the hype you hear is about the full moon. However, for me personally I'd take a no moon night over a full moon every time. It also seemed like the big girls bit better with no moon.
I too used to fish the Axtons night tourneys. Many good old day stories there...the only one I'll briefly mention is the point we used to start on....had at least an eight pounder every trip for 5 trips. We're camped there and it's just past dark. The fish are moving in and biting well. All of the sudden a boat pulls up directly on the point we're fishing and moves up the point to where we are fishing....then all of the lights gets turned on...it was a creel survey...they shocked the fish up that we were fishing for....needless to say we didn't catch two overs to weigh in at midnight and that point was toast. One of the craziest things that happened to me in a tourney......

Big worm at night is all you need. I always liked red bloodline from jawtec in the terminator worm. Brings back alot of memories on fork and Rayburn

We used to fish a whole lot on RayBob at night but only went once last year. Gonna try and get back at it this summer. I love night fishing but do not stay out all night. Prolly avg from 7pm until 1 or maybe 2am. It’s too hard to stay up all night anymore for this old guy. We primarily use one or two baits. Topwater right before dark and maybe a C-rig. Then we put everything up except a 10” power worm, red shad or blue fleck or tequila sunrise, with a 3/8 oz tungsten and 5/0 hook and 20lb flouro. We fish channel swings, humps, and flats with isolated structure. Got a path that we follow pretty much every trip. Big fish are a blast at night! Hopefully the wakeboard boat crowd won’t follow us out there.

I’ll be giving it a whack in the coming weeks. Throwing big wakebaits like MS slammers, rats, and some 3:16 wakes. Hoping to nail some of the porkers that hide from the masses during the day. Fingers crossed!

Fingers crossed! Back in the day on Fork one technique we messed with for a while was taking the old Mudbug baits and painted the bottom of a black one Red. We would slowly wake that bait above the hydrilla which would give it that tantalizing side to side motion. Didn’t catch a ton of fish on them but when you did it was sometimes some of the most violent strikes of all.

I’ve done well right around sunset, but so far haven’t fished much past 10:00 or so. I’ve heard that there’s a lull around midnight to predawn. No way I’m staying up all night to see for myself, but curious to know what your experience was.

As someone who has fished at night more than most, I can absolutely assure you that there is no "magic time" to be out there. Right at sunset can almost always be a feeding period, but as for the remained of the night it can be a toss-up. Like anything else you have to pay your dues by being there when it happens.

I have night fished for 30 years and 12-4 was usually the magic. This is especially true on high pressure lakes or lakes that have a lot of pleasure boating. It takes a while for the lake to calm down and get active. I believe some lakes are just better at night than others for whatever reason. Back in the day it was a bad night on Fork if we didn't at least boat 30 on spinnerbaits and worms.
The day after catching a lot of fish is still a good day.

Spent many a night fishing the hydrilla on the points at the mouth of Little Caney. Was one of my favorite places to fish during the summer. Black Hidlebrandt or a Hog Craw. We always anchored and didn't move more than 3-4 times during the night and never very far. When all the grass died, we started fishing boathouses more and while those were OK at times, it was never close to some of the nights we had in Little Caney.
You are not a good or nice person.

My question is one lake better at night than others? I know Fork is known for good night fishng but what about other lakes?
