keith-
shad is not cheating, its smart when the lure bite is not in IMO. Have you caught any big hybrids as of late? I consider BB hybrids about 6 to 7 lbs large.

Yes but not since last week. The weekend was killer for me. I feel a big hybrid is 6+ and a nice one is between 3 and 6. We catch quite a few nice ones and the seldom big one. The 3-6lb range have been very common as of recent but like I said, it was a very rough weekend. I figured I would catch about 100 or so on Sunday but it was more like a tenth of that.....lol

I've been catching them between 16-18 inches, nothing in the 20" inch range for some time. Maybe I should start venturing down on the south end of the lake.

My buddy brian and I had been putting a hurting on the sandies and hybrids all last week. Hopefully things will calm down a bit and the fishing will pick back up. I was sad after yesterday. I picked up a bright red sunburn, landed on my back on my first flip...ouch.. and woke up with a hangover and couldnt go back to sleep because I was in so much pain from the sunburn. Good thing is, even if the fish are not biting, I can still manage to have a good time. We were anchored in 43ft of water just north of the RC field. You could not have missed us doing dives and flips off the only boat anchored in that area. We had a few guys pull up like we were fishing and then they quickly realized that would not be the place to fish.
ALSO:::::: If you see someone fishing a bright orange FLOAT(white/oragne now) or MARKER and it is not yours, you should ask before fishing directly on it. I had some guys pull up on me twice at two different spots to fish holes that I had marked..... I couldnt believe that someone would litterally cut me off to fish a marker that I had just marked. WILD.. I dont mind people fishing around me but introduce yourself, say hi or something.. Dont cut me off and act like you laid the marker down and continue to jig around the spot I marked. It was funny how they left once I pulled the marker up. It really was a wild day.
The question of the day yesterday was," where did you get those shad?" The answer I should have given was in the water but I was nice enough to help a few people out. I have been finding all my shad on the sand for what that is worth. I use my graph until I mark them and then throw and pull up about 50 of them. Seems most of the shad I have been getting are in 14-24ft with some coming from 6ft of water or so.

Keith

Moral of above story--fat kids shouldn't try to dive. When you are 5foot nothing and shaped like a potbellied pig--diving aint for you--leave that for the gorillas.

Pie is right the fish would not take the shad whole so I was cutting them into smaller pieces and letting them run with it a bit. I also just used a 1/8 ounce split shot and it seemed to help. All of our shad came from the submerged grass in 1-4 feet of water we only take a few maybe two dozen or so.

Jason, I hope there is never a fat guy fishing on the boat with us, you will surely make him cry. I wish I had a picture of your fat @rse at Texoma when you were pulling the gut flex...lol
That was funny..... I am sure Ross has that ugly picture stuck in his head also..... OUCH..

I fished for about 2 hours and partied about 3 while on the lake. My buddy who doesnt fish often caught the biggest hybrid and I caught the best eating fish and only fish to go into the drink cooler.(there was no ice in fish box).

XYZ, how many fish did you guys catch? We were easily putting 40 plus in the boat in under an hour until yesterday and I have not caught any yellow bass. While cruising and drinking, we marked a ton of sandies on the ledge/point that you like to fish but there was no stopping, it was time to relax. Twords the end of the day, we decided to drop a few more shad but I was king of the misses yesterday. I just sucked it up!!! Ensign said he caught some yellows on one of the holes I was fishing but I was not so fortunate. There has been some nice crappie coming out of the hole though and I caught a nice one on a big gizzard shad. My routine last week was out at 7:00 and off the lake at 8 or so. The evening bite has seemed to be the best by far over the past week. Anyone fished the morning bite?
Keith

Not many Pie maybe 25-30 max in 45 minutes mostly undersize hybrids 16-17 inchers but it was nice to catch them. Were were not there long and I spent nearly 20 minutes trying to catch a threadfin shad on a hook #28 for the mulit species.. You are right the bite is between 7-8pm for 30 to 45 minutes. Unfortunately, I am teaching 9 to 2pm in the summer so no morning fishing for me.

220 was in the doghouse but he bribed his lady by letting her get another cat as a pet so now he can fish again.

better go before the storm hits, if it plans to head this way. Collin county is under a T-Storm warning.
