I use 4-pound line on my dock shooters for 2 reasons:
- Comes off the spool a little quicker than 6, so shots are a little further - 4 pound line will lose it's "pig tails" quicker than 6 will. We all know, when that spinning reel is sitting in the garage/boat all week, and we fish on the weekend, we have the dreaded "pig tail" loops in the line. I have found that the 4 will flatten out and lose the loops quicker and easier than the 6.
One trick I do to get the loops out...is when I get within about 50 yards of my first dock...I take the 1/16 oz jig off the line, and let the line unspool into the water as we are moving along. This seems to relax the line well, and then when I reel it back up...tie my 1/16 back on, and take that first shot...the line has almost no loop in it at all.
