I have a deal with big fish they let me catch them and I let them go... What is big to me well as long as it is bigger then the last one and longer than 24 inches. So I guess we are in the same boat. However, if I feel it is anyone's right to keep what they catch as long as they are within the law, it is not my place to tell them what I think unless they ask me and in this case the gent was just showing us his catch.
One good example is the absense of big cats in the Yangzee River in China where big catfish once plentiful up to the mid 90's have now been overfished. Also in the Rio Grande at home "snow birds" or winter Texas and illegal netting have put an considerable dent on the big cat popualtion. So it is a topic that needs addressing, however, if the TDPW feels not enough folks catch enough fish to hurt the popualtion well so be it. The burden will eventully lie on their shoulders and it is up to the conservative anglers to impose their own moral limits on what to take.
What a ramble, I am going fishing now.
Zeek I still have that trap if you want to trade.

Nice catch Striper! But like usual the thread has turned into a CPR whining post.
Why can't anyone ever post a pic of a big catfish on this forum without a bunch of CPR police jacking the thread? Come on it is his right to keep what he wants within the law. And I just love hearing and reading posts on how people believe the smaller cats are better eating then the bigguns. That is your opinion not the opinion of all. As far as blues go ya I can agree with that but ummm them Flatheads I will take as big as I can catch them. Please by all means throw them bigguns back keep all them small ones. Or keep all the bigguns and throw the little ones back. Either way I dont care as long as it is done within the law. My honest opinion is there are not many on this forum that I would worry about that can catch big fish period on a regular basis to where it would hurt the population in the lakes. And the ones that can keep only what they will eat. All I ask from any outdoorsman rather it be hunting or fishing is to keep only what you will eat. If you will waste one fillet or one package deer steak that is one too many. We all have responsibility to practice conservation. But just because someone keeps a biggun every now and then that will be eaten and not wasted does not mean they are not thinking or practicing conservation. Some people post on here just so people see them post that does not mean they have a lick of sense. Funny thing is they will even tell you they have no clue but they post anyways /shrug too funny.
I wont tell you what to do I will just tell you what I practice. I will only keep what I want to eat. Rather that be a 15-100 lb flathead then that is my business. I can careless what you think about it.

Come on people. Just eat the darn things already. There is a good balance of CPR's and CPE's out there. Keep what you want or not within the law. We are not gonna wipe out a species. Those babys will survive, even with me cleaning every legal fish I catch. Enjoy! (with tarter sauce if you please.) If you prefer CPR, let er rip! If not, let me know when the next fry is. I'll bring the lemons.

The number of fish I put the knife to in a year depends on the number of trips I run because I can generally limit people out. well yeah ... since you wont answer the question, let's just say you make one trip a week ... 52 trips a year & with only one limit per trip ... that's 1300 fish ... average weight? we'll say 3# ... that's 3900# of fish ... but we know that in reality we can multiply that number by at least 3 or maby even 4 ... & you wanna encourage me to release the 4 or 5 big fish that i mite eat each year? ... the amount of fish you take out every year is none of my business but let's get a little clarity here ... these little fish DO NOT taste better & you know it ... fact of the matter is you need all the big fish to to keep makin' babies to support your business & further more a "TROPHY" trip fetches far more money than a so called "eater" trip This is rod&reel fishing not jugs or lines. Blind luck I guess. Has nothing to do with many years of fishing. I probably fish more trip in a year than the average joe will in a lifetime also. The smaller fish I put the knife to are generally a couple of years old, maybe three, and five at the max. Those 20, 30, 40, and 50 pounders didn't get that big in a year or two. No one is trying to take away anyone right to catch and eat catfish from you or anyone else. Big fish deserve a chance to develop to there full potential, be they bass, reds, shark, carp, or catfish. More and more anglers are changing over to catch and release. Some of the older more set in there ways ones will never be conservation minded, and thats OK because the ones who do will more than make up for those who don't. Nor or we saying hogwash or calling you a "whinnin' babies", only presenting some opinions and views of the more conservation minded angler. I guess you lean more to the liberal side so therefore your signature must fit. conservation minded? ... we don't have agree nor do i want to change you in any way other than stop you from pushing your bogus agenda ... trying to throw some kinds guilt trip on folks that are different ... i can respect the truth no matter how different but this BS is just that ... BS ... you don't really give a rip about what some fish deserves or don't deserve
regards albertking catfishing is now an industry ... it's best for the industry to eat baby catfish
