I see a common theme in most of these discussions. Losing of rights........ What rights have we lost? What rights are we giving up? Then it gets somehow loosely tied to a fishing tournament? I don't follow, explain to me what rights have we lost? Is this a serious question? Government is ordering you to shelter in place except for activities it deems essential. It is restricting travel between the states that form the Union. It is prohibiting the peaceful gathering of ten or more citizens. It is probibiting gathering for the purpose of worship. Is that enough to get you started? Life, Liberty and 'the pursuit of happiness' (whatever that is..........Originally Property, but some idgit got that changed before we even really got started....lol) So you don't think 'Life' being a paramount liberty trumps prohibiting peaceful gatherings? No one is prohibiting worship, simply putting safe parameters around it. It's not about us as individuals, it's about us as a society. It is not restricting your travel either, it's simply ordering you to quarantine after you travel you know for the sake of 'other' peoples health. This is a perspective issue IMO, it's about seeing past your own rights and looking at other peoples rights. And we wanna talk about rights? Folks that shipped sailed a long time ago when we started asking "What Rights does the Govt. Grant me, not What rights is the Govt. protecting. Now we wanna talk about rights because we can't have fishing tournaments.........

If you can't follow you could have wool It's simple, people are being forbid to hold church services, to assemble in public, to earn a living Have you ever heard of the Constitution of the United States?

How is the government protecting us by prohibiting fishing tournaments? It's all just for SHOW and for lawmakers to say "we tried". It does nothing to stop the spread by cancelling a fishing tournament. The same folks that would go to the tournament, will have to go to Wal-Mart and pass shoulder to shoulder with other shoppers buying groceries.
If you want to argue against peaceful gatherings, you should argue against ANY type of shopping. But, you won't do that because shopping for groceries is needed. So, we're going to accept that risk while categorizing other gatherings as "prohibited".
If you have been grocery shopping, went for fast food, or been to get gas for your vehicle, you are just as guilty of spreading the virus.
I don't fish tournaments so I don't care one way or the other. But I do have an issue with selective prohibition.
I see limiting indoor gatherings as potentially helpful. But can't see an issue with outdoor gatherings where people are not forced to be in close proximity for long periods of time.

The Bill of Rights exists for the purpose of protecting the people from government. It guarantees individual rights, not the right of the whole to be protected from the individual.
Might the entirety of society be safer if police were able to conduct door to door searches looking for criminals, evidence of crimes, drugs, and other "harmful" things and practices? How many crimes might be discovered if the authorities were allowed to plant listening devices in our homes and vehicles and listen to our phone calls? How many drunk drivers and people without insurance...or people with dead bodies in their cars, for that matter...might be discovered if the cops were allowed to set up roadblocks and search everyone?
The only thing that guarantees citizens will be protected from that type of government action is the Constitution. It takes a complete lack of understanding of constitutional rights to think that document was created, ratified, and died for so that society could take away the rights of individual Americans.

The only thing that guarantees citizens will be protected from that type of government action is the Constitution. It takes a complete lack of understanding of constitutional rights to think that document was created, ratified, and died for so that society could take away the rights of individual Americans. (With your last comment, you will see at the core we really don't see the 'Rights' issue much differently, admittedly I used a shocking statement to get to my point below) I will add ultimately the exact attitude of most pushing the 'They are taking our rights' agenda are likely gonna be those that cause us to actually lose some rights. Right now in large part the Federal Govt is staying out of this and letting State Governments handle this. (Really when it comes to Healthcare prior to the Affordable Care Act, there was very little intervention/policy in place at a Federal Level). What happens if this keeps getting worse though? If we can't slow this down? I'll tell you, that is when we will see States really restricting your rights, like forcing you to wear masks in public and checking ID's when you have more than one person gathering together etc.. When they have to bring out the National Guard and enforce curfews like they did during Katrina, I'd say then you have fewer rights than you have today. What about when the Federal Govt. has to step in and authorize the Defense Production Act and force business to accept contracts deemed necessary by the Govt. for whatever costs the Govt. deems necessary? What about that same act being used to deny you the ability to purchase certain goods for your families because the Govt. deems busineess or others more necessary than you? Or worse yet gives the powers to the Federal Govt to control the economy in regards to materials they deem critical? Trump was initially reluctant to engage DPA, but was forced to by requiring 3M, GE and Medtronic to increase production of protective masks. And if the States can't contain this, the Federal Govt. will be forced to intervene (Trump has been reluctant to do this). What are your thoughts on putting infected people in FEMA camps? My point about this is simply: We haven't even begun to lose our rights in the big picture. It really is in our power and up to us as individuals in a Civil Society to behave and act with our family and our neighbors best interests. The Govt. has pumped an unprecedented amount of resources into our economy and our pocketbooks to fight this. If we all do our part, we can get this over sooner than later. If we keep up not being able to see past the end of our own noses, expect more rights to be stripped. (Real rights, folks, making what we think we are losing look small in comparison) Example, we as fisherman and outdoors man have lost our rights to State Parks and boa tramps because of the selfish attitudes of those treating this liek a holiday and taking all their best buds and extended family for a party day at the lake. Now, the Govt. has to step in and close them down, but that's our fellow society members fault, not Govt.

Yes, because the dangers of people allowing others and the government to overstep their boundaries on constitutional rights = a temper tantrum from a phone confiscation. Join the herd. I could care less about the tournament. As do many others here to defend themselves and what's right against those sheep that felt the need to foul up a thread by calling fellow Texans terrible for exercising their freedom in a perfectly safe manner, and even threatening to tattle tale to the government on them. Disgrace.
