I went to Welch Park last Sunday and threw the cast net just to see if shad were there and every cast I caught tons of shad. It's bank fishing time boys on the main lake. It was so windy though I didn't fish long and headed to NB and caught one catfish lol... Saw a few stringers... I think Jmoe is correct and they are back in the main lake. May try again today. Thanks for the heads up Jmoe and holy cow that's a nice hybrid!

Thanks Travis

I went out to the main lake on Sunday morning. It was a cooler night and the shad had moved deeper. They should start to move shallow in greater numbers with each warm night that passes.

Since the shad are further out then of course, so are the hybrids and white bass at this point. The fisherman that have been most successful are using casting rods, popping corks and live shad. They are wading out and casting.

I can't wait to wade out among them and see those hybrids blowing up the surface of the water. And chase them around in my kayak every once in a while too.

According to my boss from work, all the parks are closed except overlook. He went out last weekend and slayed them from a spot in big creek wading... So the shad are definitely spawning. Now with this rain and cold front, I'm not sure what they are doing... Either way I'm about to head to somerville from Houston just to get some lines wet and enjoy the scenery.

I went out to the dam and Welch park this morning. With the cooler temperatures the shad were not shallow. I talked to a couple of people. They said the shad were shallow and they had caught lots of white bass on Friday.

I went out to the island on Welch. There were 4 guys that had spaced out about 10 rods each. They had the entire island covered. With all these parks being closed there is a limited amount of bank space available. Very frustrating situation.

Since the parks are closed does that mean the parking access is blocked off as well?

I fished the main lake this evening hoping to catch some white bass and hybrids. I only caught one white bass and one small hybrid. I got broke off by another hybrid. They just never showed. Some shad around, but not in large numbers. I haven't gotten to go out in the morning to check it out yet.

The 8 to 12 inch largemouth bass were stacked up. I caught 31 of those while trying to catch hybrids. They couldn't resist the magical clouser either grin

They weren't at the island at Welch either. My daughter and I were on kayaks yesterday afternoon without much luck. A couple of very small schools showed up with about 15min of daylight left, and those were 100 yds off the bank and very short lived. At least my little girl got to catch one.
Non state parks are open, but are day to day. Call ahead.

Gotcha
Do the shad spawn for very long in somerville?
With all this rain and random cold fronts slowing up during my free time I feel like I may not get to hit this on time lol

The shad spawn usually lasts until at least middle of May.

I ended up going to big creek yesterday and fishing midday, caught one small catfish, one small black bass, and one GIANT hybrid... Think I found my old spot. But I had to leave at 4pm so I only fished midday. The hybrid weighed a tad under 5lbs... It was an amazing fight. Will post a Pic later

Thanks brother I'm sure that's nothing compared to what y'all catch but I'll take it. The 8lb largemouth bass I caught in February made my year already. The rest is bonus
