Someone I work with tested positive. Last day for them before remote work started was last Friday with no symptoms. Those started on Sunday and the test came back positive today. All hands meeting to tell 250 employees. It wasn't on my floor but I had lots of meetings in lots of different conference rooms, elevator rides, bathroom trips etc...Good times! Based on incubation times, I should be safe by next Thursday.

Because of privacy rules, no names were disclosed so we are going to rely on that persons memory to determine direct contact over the past 2 weeks. What could go wrong?

To date, .03% of Hong Kong's population is confirmed as infected.

To date, .0015% of South Korea's population is confirmed as infected.

To date, .000026% of the US population is confirmed as infected.

I fully appreciate the rules of exponential growth and that we are behind Hong King and South Korea's total days of infection. I have no doubt that we will catch up to them soon. I also agree that we, as a nation, must take action. However, I also think that we should appreciate the size of the various countries and not only look at "total infected"... we should also look per-capita to gauge how things are progressing.

Not meaning to debate. Just thinking-out-loud and trying to put things into perspective.

90 folks die a day in car accidents in America. So far coronavirus has killed 214 folks since February 27th, that's roughly 10 folks a day. The flu kills 150 a day by average. So why are we freaking out? Panic induced by government and media that has very little data to work with. We know who dies from coronavirus, but there is really no way to know how many are truly infected. Italy is at a 8% mortality rate, South Korea is at 1% so the numbers are useless unless you know exactly how many are and have been infected. The only closed group we had was the princess cruise ship, where everyone was tested and quarantined. The mortality rate was 1%. But it was mainly a elderly population on the ship. So my common sense alarm is screaming and I see a Y2K panic on steroids happening. More harm is being done to America the good.

The John Hopkins dashboard, while not technically news, is also feeding into the panic mentality. (https://gisanddata.maps.arcgis.com/...wr6Vh8#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6)

The dashboard is being viewed 24/7 by millions of folks in a vacuum. Meaning, where's the dashboard for other commonly known illnesses so we can put things into perspective? If Hopkins at least did this, it would help people understand what they are looking at.

One of the things that make COVID-19 unique is that it's new and we don't know if this will putter out on its own (like SARS and H1N1) or keep going. For this reason I support national efforts to curtail lifestyle for a period of time. However, I do not support the ratings driven coverage from all news sources.

They are not locking everyone down yet in Australia and this doctor explains why. Their numbers are lower than ours so they have more of a buffer before their hospitals are overcapacity.

They also say that a 2 month quarantine isn't going to save us, we will probably have to be locked down for a year. The models indicate that the US would lose 2.2 million people in the next few months if we did nothing. Australia is not in as bad of shape, so they are not being as drastic yet.

Keep in mind that this guy is saying this to explain Australia's moderate actions, he's not selling miracle toothpaste.

Very naive and one of the deniers. But thats what you normally do.
The Texas governor said that we will probably see tens of thousands of cases in Texas in the coming weeks as testing becomes available. Its not going to go away for months and the guesses that at least half of us will eventually contract it is IMO very low.
I understand most countries are doing something like what the US has done but my take is that we could have done it better.
We should have kept the economy rolling, just slowed down as necessary by distancing and safe practices that slow the spread of the virus.

FYI - The "lockdowns", "shelter-in-place", "social distancing", etc., are not measures to save us, they are measures to try to help the medical field from becoming completely overwhelmed.

May you be treated the way you treat other people, today and everyday!

I'm glad the Texas governor has a working crystal ball that predicts the future.I can rest easier now.

So exactly how many people have to get infected and how many have to die before this is no longer unjustified Y2K panic? I'd just like to see the guys saying this is unjustified put numbers on paper so the rest of us can know when this is a big deal.

I'm not sure how, but I think a bunch of folks still don't get the incredibly basic concepts of:

1. This just started here in the US.
2. Exponential growth
3. Finite medical resources

If they did understand those things, I'm not sure how they could make the argument that "so far this has only killed 200 people."

I just wish we had better data. Not saying it’s not a potential disaster, just that the numbers are all over the place. Go calculate death rates for different countries or even states. Makes no sense at all right now. Doubt it ever will so it’s frustrating as hell trying to determine the lethality of it or even the risks. Only way it’ll be accurate is if everybody gets tested and that won’t happen.

What a maroon!

Is it even real? What if it's all a government exercise? How many of your friends and family have this? What about friends of friends and friends of family??

What if this was all started through dispensaries or vapor products that were contaminated purposely shocked

These are the things Geraldo should be researching!!

It's very real. Talk to any ICU worker in Dallas or Collin county. They will protect specific patient information, but it is very real.
