Like many of you I've done well when the whitebass are very active and easy to catch but struggle when the fish just don't seem to be interested in taking a lure. After watching the above video from three years ago I have realized how much more I've learned about whitebass fishing "on the fly" from watching J-Moe and from much experimenting with fly design and presentation. Even though I've been doing this "On the Fly" much longer than J-Moe his approach and attention to detail has put him on a level all to himself when it comes to whitebass fishing. Almost every trip out this season I've done well enough but J-Moe has tripled my catch rate with ease making him the one to watch..

The wife and I fished Newman Bottom both days this weekend. She out Fished me Saturday using minnows. She caught 20. I was using a clouser fly, rooster-tails - several colors of jigs. I managed 10. It was a Tough day. My wife graciously did not rub it in too much. But there was some trash talking. LOL. We unexpectedly had the day available Sunday. So we went back to NB. After watching her catch Saturday, I bought extra minnows and decided to use minnows too. I trash talked her and told her I was gonna out fish her today.
Parking lot was almost full when we got there at 1pm. Minnows in hand, we set out upstream. We caught a few very quickly. Then they slowed down. The bite picked up around 4. I moved a few times and finally found a hole. I ran out of minnows by 6pm but managed To catch my limit. She caught about 10. Minnows were the ticket for me.
I ran into HL&S and J-Moe. They were coming as we were leaving. We stopped and talked. They are kool dudes! It was good to see them. I wished I could have watched them kill the sandies with that fly rod. I could have learned a thing or two. But we had too many fish to clean, and 90 miles to drive home.
Got family coming for the week and this weekend. Unless my boss lets me off work, that might be the last time I get to go to NB in 2020. But if so... what a way to go! Fish fillets are in the freezer! Time to stink up some grease.
Went to Newman's Wednesday morning and the early morning bite was insane. Everyone up and down the banks pulling in fish left and right until about 9:30 then it slowed down. I took a break for lunch then went upstream and caught 5 more in shallow running water. Nothing out of the deeper pools. Finished the day with 21 fish. Previous best day was 2. The fish were spawning all up and down the creek. Caught all my fish on 1/32 ounce white maribou jigs. Hoping I can make it out 1 more time on Monday. Good luck everyone.

Congrats, Dude! Those days are the best.
+1 Really happy for you. You will now have many more great days. You used the Fishytx method of a 1/32 ounce white marabou jig. Now with 35 more years of experience you'll be able to catch as many fish as he does
Ended up having a rough day until about 3pm when I changed lures and started pounding them with a Lil jig. This morning the bass were going insane when it was still dark but my headlamp went out and I couldn't see anything. I ended up walking way further downstream than anticipated in the dark. I was using my phone light. I think I walked like 2 miles. By time I got back near the bridge, spots were filled. I'm an idiot. It was way slower today everyone was saying, only certain spots people were getting big stringers. I caught one in the dark in the morning and after lunch I went upstream and found a whole and slayed them on a I tiny jig. I caught about 18 wb, missed three, all males it seemed. One small crappie and a big largemouth about 4lbs. So it ended up being a great day. I kept about 10 bass and threw back the rest. Learned a lot today but I put the work. That mistake of a walk I made in the morning had me worn out by 8:30 haha. I'm exhausted. Glad I learned some new techniques and new spots not far from parking lot. I also met a fellow one of you guys out there today, but I can't recall his name.
Going to have to leave these fish on ice and filet tomorrow since I'm dead. Tight lines guys.
