I've got a 2011 Ford f150 with the v8 5.0 and about 102,000 miles. I mainly only use the truck to pull the boat.

Last weekend, I was driving to and from lowes, and the truck died a couple times while stopped at a stoplight. It started back up after it died.

I put in new spark plugs in, drained and refilled the coolant, cleaned the mass air flow sensor, put some fuel additive, and a new air filter. Drove it around my neighborhood and it seemed fixed, but after a few minutes it died, this time will driving at about 20 mph. Tried starting it back up and it would start then die instantly. Waited 5 minutes and it started, but very rough, and I limped home.

Anyone deal with something like this before?

One or more of the COP (coil on plugs) are bad. I had the 5.4L in a 2011. Water from rain gets down around the #5 I think and it will cause random high speed miss and also cause stalling after the motor warms up. It will run about $400 I think to change them out. But it sounds like it to me.

I would think if even 2 plugs are misfiring the truck would still run, albiet very rough and not die. My guess would be fuel pump intermittently failing ,or maybe CPS.

I had an issue 6 months ago with fuse 27 burning out. That fuse controls the fuel pump. I may try replacing it again tomorrow just to see what happens, even though it looked fine.

Good point. It may indeed be fuel. I wonder if the filter has ever been changed? Sediment or rust in the tank.

That won't help. If it burned out, it was from too much current. Sounds like the fuel pump is going bad.

My '14 3.7L ran bad for a couple years and no one could ever find anything wrong. hmmm

It just turned over 80K and I had only topped 19 mpg (highway) twice and only topped 18 on the highway 3 times.

The positive battery terminal was about eaten up from corrosion.

I ordered a new one and cut the old one off, put the new one on, crimped it on, and replaced all the wires.

I took a trip to Galveston (3 hour trip) and got over 20 mpg's in for the first time ever! eeks

I normally got about 15.5-16.5 in mostly highway driving and the last 3 tanks have been 20.2, 19.8, and 18.9 with some deliveries thrown in since it is a work truck. thumb
