Myself and kayak fishing buddy Jeff fished Lake Mcqueeney this past Friday. We launched at a private ramp. We fished from 10am till 2pm and the bite was slow.
We only managed six fish between the two of us. 4 LMB, 1 Bluegill, and one Redear (but a BIG ONE). White Rooster Tails got the best results on the bass. The Bluegill
and Redear were caught on Gulp Alive Leaches. The Bluegill was 9" and the Redear was 11" even. Bass were caught in 6 to 9 feet of water off of a drop off. The sunnies
were caught in 10 feet of water by docks. All fish were released. It was great fishing Mcqueeney for the first time this year. woot

Side Note: Was warned by authorities that certain areas on the lake have been added to the closed areas. The lake is open.

Great report Curtis. A friend of mine told me that the river lakes were once again shut down to any boat traffic. Obviously that is not the case ? Any clue what's going on with those lakes ?

You are right Vogey! We found out the hard way! Was told by an authority of the HOA and a deputy. We had no idea the lake had certain new areas closed! hammer eeks

I did not know about the lakes being closed until I just read the post! I saw several boats and kayaks on Placid this past week! I just now spoke with a friend of mine who lives on Placid and he told me that the river all the way to Gonzales has been closed again. He had no idea when the lakes will be reopened. He said all public ramps and some private ramps have closed signs . A lot of private ramps do not! Boaters are given warnings in most cases!

Side Note: Nice post. To bad you guys can't fish a lot of your spots! I was told that the river is expected to reopen sometime in March!

Lake Mcqueeney is OPEN to water craft and recreational use! Spoke with a lady at the GBRA who stated that certain other areas have been added to the closed off list. Maps have been posted on the main ramps at all of the GBRA lakes showing the closed off areas. All lakes are open but other areas have been closed off. Each lake has a map posted showing the closed off areas. She also said that a map of the closed areas can be found on the GBRA web site. Maps were not posted on residential ramps where we launched. Feel a whole lot better! nuts

Is the lake worth fishing next time I visit Austin? Can I get on it with a kayak not knowing a home owner?

Don't worry about the mule, just load the cart

Yes you can. There is a boat ramp that is in the Creek Side subdivision. The HOA does not mind people who use it as long as they do not leave any trash behind. The only problem it is a long paddle to the main lake! It is also close to the danger zone on the opposite end. hmmm This is the only ramp you can use unless you know a home owner. nuts
