For the forum members, the interest may be in the launch fees and tournament fees. There will be a $5 launch fee. that is not out of line. For the $200 turny fee, that is. We all know that a club will not absorb $200 out of an $800 purse. Steve. you are correct, clubs will not put Nocona on the schedule. That is not good for the town economy or the fisherman. On the other hand, neither is it to have 3 clubs fishing the lake at one time. Nocona is just too small. Sometimes in the spring it looks like the big bass splash at fork with a conga line going around. I have spoke to some and I think that a good happy medium would be to have a club register with the city to have a tournament and with that a small clerical fee. Just enough to pay for someone to handle a schedule so that multiple clubs are not on top of each other. I hope the fisherman would appreciate that and it would be worth a small fee to show up and not see other clubs. I hope to propose this at the next meeting Monday. Now for the clerical fee. Steve and other turnny directors tell me what you think and would $20-$25 out of line?
The money is going into a separate lake account and all funds will go back into the lake. This will be audited. New park benches,nice men and women's restrooms/storm shelters, RV pads for rent, with hookups and wast disposal, improved courtesy docks, and one of the biggest to me is child playgrounds. This will make it a drug free zone. (All three parks) This is what was presented to the public at last nights meeting. I am excited for the future of Lake Nocona.

This sounds positive to me... Nocona can't handle multiple club tourneys every weekend in the Spring... It sounds like the end result will be more enjoyable for all involved...

I am a tournament director in a small club scheduled to fish nacona this year. I spoke with the mayor which is also a motel owner in nancona as well prior to the council meeting. He is fully supportive of fishermen and clubs to continue fishing nancona because the economic impact to a small town like nacona from the extra funds such as motel stays, food, gas etc. Is vital to the town. He was under the impression that most lakes charge tournament fees. If the lake adopts the boat launch fee of $5 will bring in more money to the town vs a tournament fee which will cause local clubs to quit fishing and will take away money freon the town. I spoke to several tournament directors who like I will move lakes if any tournament fee is established on the lake.

I would defiantly support having fee’s for tournaments being held on the lake. There are several lakes in Texas that already have launch fees and tournament fees to to hold tournaments on them. This would keep from having multiple tournaments going on at the same time. Nocona is a fantastic lake and fun to fish but not big enough to handle multiple tournaments at the same time. I don’t know if having a set rate of $200 should be set in stone... maybe a few dollars per fisherman or team would work....

Kinda surprised by the amount of interest in this action by City of Nocona. The city does not own the lake, the tax payers in the city do. As long as those tax payers agree with fees and the proceeds actually go towards what they were intended(promised) than good for them. Kinda like the local hotel taxes that other city’s use to get outside visitors to “share” in the cost of operating the city(or lake). I would warn against fees like the proposed $200 fee for ALL tournaments regardless of size. That would hurt the local economy by causing smaller groups and clubs to not use the lake and thus not bring in business(gas stations, restaurants, convenience stores...). Maybe consider a sliding scale for a fee that is dependent on the number of participants? Otherwise smaller clubs are going to avoid Nocona altogether or not pay fees by keeping their tournament “hush-hush” (fishermen wouldn’t do that, right?). Unless of course, as mentioned above^^^^ keeping tournaments away is part of the intention. Just thinking out loud.....

Everyone has some good points. When I was fishing Media individuals Squaw was always the first stop as is many other clubs for Jan/Feb. They have a boat permit of $30. You put 150 boats on 3200 acres and its packed. If Joe would have told us $32 bones and we would be the only game on the lake, I wouldn't have batted an eye.

$200 per tournament is not enough. That lake gets pounded and it has suffered because of it.

the 5 dollar lauch fee is fair but trying to compare lake nocona to squaw creek is like comparing a [censored] to a race horse two different animals. the reason folks pay the big bucks is because they can go there an catch fish when all of the other area lakes fish lousy in cold water because there are few power plant lakes anymore.

I would also like to see figures of said loss of money to Nocona. It’s so close to DFW that I have serious doubts about how many people stay at the hotels in town. They likely buy ethanol free gas in Saint Jo and Bowie as they drive into town. Finish fishing the tournament, then drive home. FWIW, I own a house there and will be happy to pay the fees they are proposing if that cleans up the lake.
