I'm having serious thoughts about trying the tail race below Canyon Dam. What say you Banker? Have you been? Anyone else? As already been stated by Trent, The Trail Race on stocking day is a "MAD HOUSE"! I would fish Hyco Springs. It's crowded but spread out!

Caught a limit of these beauties at Shirley McDonald Park this morning. Had several fish get off at the water's edge and lots of short strikes. It was a good morning of fishing considering that there was a trout derby at this location yesterday.
Every fish I caught was on a gold SDL. When you think you are using a small lure, go even smaller. Just my 2 cents worth.
I fished less than three hours. The whole time I was there, there were two city/park employees picking up trash close to the water.!!!! Come on folks, take your trash with you!! Now I'll get down off my soap box.
Great time fishing!

Nice post via Shirley McDonald Park! Got to love those good days! Side Note: Anglers or people who leave trash behind are one of the major reasons why property owners do not allow anyone on their property to fish. Just my two cents!

Ifishlbj, Yes I was there on Monday with my Great Niece and Great Nephew for the kid derby along with the 200 other people. My GOD it was way too many people and not many fish were caught. I think I saw only maybe 7 fish caught. It is a poorly ran kid fish. they stocked the fish on Friday 01/17 and the kid derby was from 1-4pm on Monday. Not a good time to be fishing Midday. I know they had it because of the holiday but they should have the fish stocked same day so the kids have a better chance of catching fish that is what it is about the KIDS!
A bad day fishing is better than a good day at work.

Trent, I went to the "kids" derby last year for about ten minutes. What a train wreck! If they stocked the fish Friday the derby should have been Saturday or off limits for fishing until Monday. For the kids derby, no matter what day, if an adult wants to fish he/she should sponsor a kid or bring one with him. Just my 2 cents worth!
The kids fishing derby in Georgetown this year was in November at Garey Park. And, those that wanted to fish had to pre register. I think it was limited to 150 people. Last year it was over run with folks. Oh! And to top it off the lakes were not stocked with trout. My granddaughter and I did not attend in November.
So, those of us that caught trout yesterday at McDonald Park were fortunate to catch what we did!!
KEEP THE KID's FISHING DERBY(s) for the kids!!!!!

Ifishlbj I have been to the tailrace twice this year and it has been kinda slow. I caught 8 and 9 and the crowds are really crazy. also as far as the silver SD I have the same luck with the silver as I do the gold. It is more about presentation than color. Yes I will be out at Shirley McDonald as well this week. Hey Trent, I've also used both but better luck with gold. Just wondering what presentation works best for you? I'm pretty new at this and usually just toss them out, let them sink and start reeling in slowly with a jerk here and there.

Texdan, yes that is the best presentation usually. If that is not working you may lifting your rod up during retrieval and they will hit your super duper on the fall back down.
