Just have to play it smart and launch at a ramp that will give you protection with the most fishing opportunity. It may not be the area you wanted to fish, but that is how you learn new areas and spots. Most lakes usually have a boat ramp at the head waters or river that will offer protection. Or a ramp below the dam in the river.

I fish out of a 20' center console. It handles rough water pretty well, however, loading the boat back onto the trailer in heavy seas and wind can be tough. Tying the boat to a dock, lining boat up with the trailer, etc are tough , damaging the boat is a real possibility.
