Question from a Viewer on our YouTube Channel - COAF Field Team concerning how far up or downstream should you fish to give others their space. Initial answer was to defer to others for more input but did suggest talking to the other person to confirm where they are fishing. Made sense... but, found the answer lacking.

So decided to research further, and after a review of the top 3 Google Search results for "Stream Side Fishing Etiquette" learned a new thing or two, and then created a "Stream Side Fishing Etiquette" Infographic for easier reference.

May be of interest to some wondering how far should one fish from another fisherman. Do check it out - "Stream Side Fishing Etiquette”

Been fighting a cold but did breakaway for a quick trip to the local lake - Bethany Lakes, on a warm December afternoon. Brought the TFO 6 Wt and 6/7 Wt Echo Ion Reel for a go at the fish. How to Get Over a Cold... Go Fishing! #fishing #flyfishing

Out and about fishing with the Cabelas CGR Fiberglass. Thought it was a three weight but it is a two weight. Put a 3wt Cabelas Prestige Plus 1 reel from another rod on it. Cast nicely... even caught a little Bass at the local pond! Fun stuff! Cabelas CGR Fiberglass Two Weight #flyfishing

Fished a new place yesterday - December 27, 2019... Pottsboro Lake located just north of Dallas in the town of the same name... Pottsboro. Stocked with trout earlier in the month, was not sure if the trout would still be there. It's a small pond and may have had heavy fishing pressure.

As it turns out, the trout were there. They were readily feeding on something near the surface if not on the surface. In short order, caught two limits. One of us was using a Chartreuse PowerWorm fished wacky rigged. The other used an Olive Near Deere with no indicator and fished with varying retrieves.

Also, started with the TFO 6 wt Fly Rod with Echo Ion Reel. Then, switched to the Cabelas 2 wt CGR Fiberglass Fly Rod with an old 3wt fly reel. Lots of fun... PS: Ordered a new 1-3 Wt Orvis Hyrdos Fly Reel to use with the CGR going forward. More to come once it arrives!

Went to Mesquite City Park lake this morning to try my luck at trout fishing. The only trout being caught were by the cormorants

Fshng84,

Thought you had posted a video of tying the mop fly but I could not locate it.
If you did post the video could you please provide me the link?

Thanks

Made the run to Pottsboro Sunday for another round of fly fishing for trout. Started late in the day due to the rain in the morning. Colder and windier than it was on Friday. Luckily, the trout were active and we were able to limit out. Since we knew the trout were there... decided to mix it up and fish different colored near deere - Olive, Pink, White... plus fished a Mop Fly, too.

After changing fishing flies and trying different retrieves, this trip we noted a few key items and posted details on our blog and in the video description. Lesson-Learned: Color does matter and the pattern will change unexpectedly as conditions change throughout the day.
Fly Fishing for Trout with Near Deere, Color Matters...! #flyfishing #neardeere #giveaway

I made my first trip up to Pottsboro Sunday morning, 12/29/2019. Arrived at sunup and left with a limit by 9 a.m.. It was definitely windy and cold and the water was a lot more murky than what was seen in your video

I was the only one there the entire time and it looks like you were the only one there too judging by the lack of cars, other than yours, in the background.

Anyway, just as I was about to leave a TPWD Game Warden pulled up and we had a good chat for about 10 minutes.
First time I've been checked by a warden in over three years. The last time was when Leroy was checking people below Lavon Dam.

The warden asked if I had seen anyone 'double dipping' (i.e. keeping more than 5 or hitting the pond twice in a day). Apparently it has been going on up there.
He gave me his card and asked me to call him if I see any of that nonsense - told him I'll be sure to do that. He did ask to see my catch which I was more than happy to show to him..

Your videos got me excited about getting up to Pottsboro to try for some of the stocker trout this afternoon.
A little windy when I got there and could see action just out from the cat tails..
Found a coupld spots where the reeds were a little shorter or thinner and fished over them.
Managed to get some bites on a yellow near deere.
Bites were very light and only one hit, would not come back and could not hook any trout.
Tried different retrieves, a couple different colors and some wooly buggers but still no luck.
Once bites stopped, Decided to put a small popper on my fly rod and caught 3 perch bigger than my hand.
When perch stopped biting, broke out my long crappie rod with a size 12 hook, power bait and 2 small split shot spread out. Just enough so I could cast but hopefully not have the fish feel weight as they hit the bait.
Bites were so light just saw the curve of the line going down to the water barely change shape.
Missed several but managed to catch 3 trout.
Great way to finish off the year.

I saw 3 other folks fishing while I was there. Police cruised through the parking lot but did not stop and no signs of the game warden.
