January and February is spawn time at Falcon, anytime during those months will be good.

Never test the depth of the water with both feet.

I've always struggled on Falcon January through March. Sure, we caught some fish and a few good ones but year after year, May and June have produced more and bigger fish. The lake is waaaay to unpredictable in the spring.

Worse places to be in January.…..How safe is it these days? I haven't been to Falcon in about 7-8 years, right after all the publicity re: the jet skier getting killed

It’s a safe as anywhere else I’ve been, never had an issue. Chit can happen anywhere, see it on the news here at home everyday.

Many anglers still fish the Mexico side including folks in our club, just mind your own business and be vigilant. I just stay on our side of the border and fishing is fine. Before you go out check with the fellas at Falcon Lake Tackle if you have any questions or concerns. Their good people, little crazy but good!!!! Just kidding guys!! smile

We fished down there last spring and were very disappointed in the fishing. Judging by the reports it got a lot better in the summer which is when we will probably go this year.

At the level it’s at now it’s only about 33,000 acres. That means you don’t have the long creeks stretching way back into Mexico or high bushes that would let someone sneak up on you. The banks are barren mud banks. All the bushes are 50 to 100 up on the bank. At this level fishing is crappier but the lake is safer.

I fished down there last week and was really disappointed and listening to others talk they were just as disappointed as well.
