Heres a 2 cent thought. Keep one of those bright orange collapsible oars in the boat. They don't do a thing for actually rowing yourself in, but they're great for flagging down help ... if there's other fishermen around, most likely someone will give you a tow.

What would we do without cell phones? What did we do when we didn't have em'? I can't remember. Good point. You know, every time I ride down the highway and some jerk is screwing up traffic, he/she is usually on a cell phone. I want to scream "HANG UP AND DRIVE!". I hate that more than anything in the world. But, I have to admit they are handy, especially when out on a boat. Use to, you depended on your radio(at least we did on Texoma). But it was difficult to call a land line with. Now no problem, just pick it up and hope you have good service.

Lake Conroe (where i fish most now) has a towing service. I have no idea how it works, and how much it costs, but I've seen several boats being towed by TowBoats US (I think).
The map I have of Conroe that I keep in the boat has their number.

Hey this is a good thread. Thanks for posting. What would we do without cell phones? What did we do when we didn't have em'? I can't remember. 2-way radios, especially marine radios. I had one when I used to fish the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers a lot. Wouldn't be on one of those things without some form of communication. I don't have one anymore but sometimes I wish I did. Use your trolling motor like I did. Guy never came that my dad called because the cowboys were on. Also they wouldn't tow me in just me. So I said screw it and it took over three hours to troll in but I made it and got a brand new motor out of it as well.

Lewisville lake now has Seatow. You can contact them on vhf channel 14 i think. But they will tow, bring fuel, rescue, and jump start.

They just changed some rules on Lake Lewisville. The officials will not answer the calls from boaters who need a tow when their motor dies anymore. They said unless it concerns an injury, they will refer you to one of the 2 tow services on the lake. Hopefully they'll do this on other lakes, too. With so few GW's we sure don't need them spending their time towing boats.

First, cast your anchor off the bow of your boat to avoid additional problems. Of course, if you have a cell phone you are in luck and can call a number of people. I carry a hand-held marine radio also since it has a constant weather channel. Most lake patrol monitor their marine radios. I generally get a radio check when I first get out on the lake. Great question; I am gonna put the local boat tow and lake patrol numbers in my telephone tonight.
