Sandwich, I know exactly where you are talking about and that's where I caught the 10 lb largemouth a few years back. It sure helps to have fished the lake before it went up because most of that blind brush can be somewhat visualized if you've got a good memory. It looks like I'll be out there on Tuesday (solo). Ben shared mortician duties with a young lady who just had her baby. Now Ben is the only mortician here for the next 3 months and he's on call 24-7 for that duration. At least he'll be good and rested for this year's crop of winter crappie. Thanks for all the advice Sandwich. Hope to see you out there. Good fishin'.

SlabbedSilly what are you catching the largemouth on. I plan on going fishing this coming weekend. I haven't been since first of april when it was cold. It was real slow then.

Well tried JB for the first time Sat.. Rough time catching any keepers. All together Donut for any crappie over 10" Guess we were doing it wrong. Tried several nice dropoffs with brush/rock -Deep and shallow. Anybody else know how to fish? TK

liketocatchum, I haven't officially bass fished in over 5 years. I have accidentally caught several fish over ten pounds while crappie fishing with a pink head/ blue and white body Roadrunner (biggest bass ever was caught at Thomas in March four years ago and it unofficially weighed 13.5 pounds and made the front page of the newspaper there in Snyder-still have 3 copies to prove it). Now my relatives that live in Snyder use 12-14 inch plastic worms (any dark color) and flip into the stickups. They do fairly well. Other than that, I normally use a white or chartreuse spinnerbait or buzzbait for these post spawn fish. But as I stated earlier, I haven't actually targeted bass in several years and when I did it was normally in the fall when the will hit crankbaits.
LipRippin, don't feel bad. The first time on JB can be devastating if conditions aren't optimal and you haven't found the spots. I've fished there for years and my last trip yielded only one keeper and several throwbacks, but I wanted to try something new and it didn't work. Right now I would say the easiest way to catch them would be to fish 5-10 foot of water using minnows on any of the rocky points or around the big island (NW corner used to be the best). If you are tubing, cover LOTS and LOTS of water and keep your bait in the brush.
Good Fishin'.

Don't feel bad. The guys who know JBT had a tough go of it over the weekend. Need to let it settle down after all the activiy, I guess. I fished a small lake with no boat traffic at all and it was tough.

Whoooo Boy! Sandwich is right - Tough time yesterday anyway. Took a couple of my new wood turning friends over to JBT early yesterday. Back of my mind told me not to be overly optimistic since the new 3 feet of water came in. I had really wanted to show these boys what a couple of JBT crappie looked like. They are not much fisherman, but a few hits on Sandwich Maker jigs would make their day. Not even a single bump. Beatiful day though. Made for a good outing with good friends.
Talked to a guy in Academy Sunday afternoon that was going to JBT. Know that he reads the forum, but may not post. Don't know if I caught his name. Must not have, cause I can't remember it. Hope he does not think too badly of my advice to him about the fishing. They just were not wanting to bite. I usually at least get ripped off by a bass or two in search for crappie. Even the bass were clammed up.

Crappie hooker, I'm Shane Wimmer from Seminole and talked to you at Academy Sunday and really do appreciate the information. I did not make it over this weekend but hope to next weekend between my son's baseball tournament and daughter's softball tournament. I have actually not been on JBT in 3-4 years and just really don't know the lake but have been reading the postings. I hope to find Rocky Point etc. I just have a little 14 ft v-hull - just starting out really but thought JBT would be good to get mine and the son's feet wet. I really would like to bass fish but thought I better fish for crappie since that seems to be the primary game fish out there. Any other advice would be appreciated. Thanks again.

Think one guy had plenty of action this weekend. Talked to one of my friends who is a trooper for DPS and he and another trooper were out there helping the 2 Game Wardens haul folks in. I think Mel (GW) had more action than he wanted.

We did not see a G.W. on the water Monday, but there was at least two vehicles patroling the shore. Lots of folks there, and I am sure it kept them busy. My only meeting with Mel was about 5 years ago when I had just aquired my new old boat. Went from just under a 16 foot to an 18. Right - no throwable device. He did not ticket me. but he did give me the choice of getting a ticket or getting off the water. Lesson learned.
One of my friends (green horns delux) forgot to get a fishing license. He followed my advice and had a great time taking pictures, bird watching, nature hiking for a couple of hours, and laying around catching some rays. My advice - Touch a rod and this grumpy old man will break both your arms!.
Just joking. Fine Christian men along with me and great company. Made my day go well just to have the company.
Seminole - You can bass fish and crappie fish when you go. JBT has some sneaky nice bass right now. If the water settles down a little, fishing should get right again. The bass will be near the brush even if the crappie are fickle. Also if you know Gary Duggar the pharmacist, don't listen to him about me. We went to school together. I'm a pretty privilaged guy to be able to call Gary a good friend.

6/14/07: Not many posts lately. Just looked and the level is 2224' that should make the ramp useable. Anybody launched a boat, caught a crappie, LMB or white bass?
Anyone, Anyone!
Thanks and Gig'em, Mark Fairchild
