Nope. Graduated from Texas Tech with an ESS / English double major to coach. Coached for 6 years. Started as a grunt on a frac crew for the summer when the Barnett Shale was going nuts. Moved up to running the frac crew when it busted. Jumped on with British Petroleum as a well site leader for 5 years. Now an independent completions consultant supervising frac operations for roughly 10X more money per year than I made coaching...… Life is funny.

No. Out of high school I thought wanted to work in an outdoor profession. I thought I would go into something like forestry, limnology, oceanology or ichthyology. Went to college with that in mind. Spent most of my freshman year hating school and getting bad grades. Turns out I really did not want to know and had no aptitude to memorize the scientific names for trees, fish or other fresh water or ocean creatures. I thing I really just wanted to fish and hunt.
Last semester freshman year I took a freshman level (but 5 credit) economics class and everything just clicked. To me economics was very logical and easy to understand. I aced the class. Talked my Dad into letting me go back for one more semester (they were paying for school) to prove myself in my new major… Economics. He agreed. My grade point went from a 1.89 to a 3.89 (on a 4 point scale).
Picked up a second major in Business Marketing. I used both degrees at the only job I have had since graduating college with a major retailer and spent my entire 38 year career there. Retired two years ago.
Still like to go fishing and some hunting.

Team wolfs I had to perform. It took a minute to get it all in my mouth and another five to swallow it all.

While in school I had no idea. Figured I would be a mechanic like my dad. High schools jobs was always something to do with working on cars. Junior year I signed up for the machine shop class, mainly because it was half the school day and got me out of all the other bs classes. Did both years and went to work in machine shops. Did that for 22 years at a couple of places. When the company I was working at was bought out and shut down in 98, we were offered the chance to go to school and learn a new trade. There were a lot of choices of things I knew I didn't want to do. I chose IT. Spent a couple years in school and have been doing it for 20 years now.

While in high school I only cared about chasing tail and partying, during the summers I worked for the family masonry business, always thought that was just what I was going to do, but in my late teens grandpa died then a few years later my dad retired from custom homes and commercial builds, I had a love/hate relationship with that line of work, one day a surveyor showed up on a jobsite and we got to talking, he hired me the following Monday and I've been doing it since, I'm not getting rich by any means but I love my job for the most part

Great story. Some young’s could stand to hear this. Agreed, great post! I had planned to be a pilot, but 9/11 happened my junior year of HS and I decided that nobody would fly airplanes anymore or at least that pilot demand would diminish significantly. So I decided my senior year to go into engineering in college, and I've been doing that for 16 years since (4 in college, 12 in the workforce).

Sort of. What I do for a living was my second choice and self taught. I have 6 years of Baylor and not a single day can I say it was a waste. I don’t use my degree for what I do, but it is helpful to have the experiences and backgrounds I acquired along the way.
I was born to be a musician, but love custom cars. I started taking lessons at 4yrs old. Piano and guitar. Then pretty much everything else. I have a masters in Music Perfofmance. I build custom cars.

Not quite Coach Hark. My coaching job payed $32,500 about 15 years ago. Never made it to the head coaching or coordinator level. It was a great decision financially, but I still miss the Friday night lights.
