Do yall change your jig colors for fall. I always throw black/blue but I have heard a lot of people like a brown jig. Thoughts? I don't have confidence in any jig color other than black blue. Am I missing out?

Black and blue hard to beat! In clear water I’ll use more greens if they don’t eat the black and blue

You will never go wrong with black and blue. For me it is either that or in clearer water I go to a natural color like a brown with maybe a faded orange or green pumpkin in it, with a natural trailer to match, which is almost always gp. A lot of companies will make one called Bama Craw, and that is usually what my natural color jig is.

Big male Crayfish are on the move after the females right now. It starts with the water temp. droppihg some and with the first cold front. If you really want to throw the best colors you will have to set some traps in the areas that you want to fish. The colors are always different form one cove to the next. It is my opinion that it has a lot to do with how much rock and vegetation there is available in those areas. If you are catching Orange and Green then that is what you want to be throwing in that specific cove/creek. If they are Black/Blue; then that is the color. I have found that we do better on Black/Blue because they are that color 70% of the year in most creeks and coves. The other 30% of the time is where the traps come in very handy. Stay on them and go to the spawning flats in your favorite coves.

Each person you work with holds some promise to your future success.

I still think the water clarity is the key. Stained water black and blue , muddy water I'll add a little chartreuse dip and dye. Clear water black and blue with a green craw or a green jig and green craw. I have tried orange and brown. Caught a few but always went back. Caught them on black and red too, seen a big black and red crawfish in the water. Water was clear that day. I know crawfish molt and even look gray sometimes.

My default is natural perch type color watermelon-pumpkin, etc... in clear water and black/blue/chartreuse in stained water but confidence is key for me. My best 5 fish day ever on a private lake was pumpkin rig with red flake and red tail trailer in cold slightly stained water.

Deep water Jig is one of the few baits I struggle with. I see “Mexican heather” used a lot. Where is this color best?

Mark made 10 skirts for me that I am afraid to throw. eeks

I bought a new rod last week and it says its rated for "17-20#" and I am scared if I throw one of these skirts the fish that bites may exceed the rod's capability!!

One of the best jig days I ever had on Fork was throwing an old Stanley blk/blue/purple with an Uncle Josh ORANGE pork trailer. Was fishing with Richard McCarty and he looked at that combo and said, "you won't catch sh_t with that!" I smoked him and my partner. That was in early November and I still throw a jig in cold water with some orange in it on stained water lakes!

...And use Mr. Harper's crawfish scent(s).

Many folks who have not been around crawfish don't realize they can take on a bluish/purple iridscent tint on the main portion of their shell at differnt times of the year.
