You might launch at South Shore and drive straight across the lake. There’s more isolated trees over there and it’ll help you understand better what you’re seeing. If you go someplace with lots of trees, it’ll be a jumbled mess on the graph. There are some trees in the main lake, about halfway across, so you’re better off kind of driving near the dam as you go across. It’s completely clear near the dam.

I have no clue on the crappie, I tend to catch more gaspergoo for some reason, must be the way I fish.

Edit: Apparently some guys did pretty good on Sunday, just not the guys I talked too.

Just got back. I think I need to fish for gaspergoo or crappie also. 6 hours and 1 small one and missed 1 bite. 9 rods got used and that's my story and I am sticking to it.

Lol, maybe we can start a gaspergoo fishing club and have tournaments.

I got there about 8:30 and fished til 6 pm. Tried a buzzbait and weedless spoon with no takers. I tried a squarebill where I could with no luck either.
I moved across the lake and switched to a yum dinger rigged with a small splitshot and started catching small bass on the edge of the weeds in about 12 feet of water. I ended up with 30-40 for the day, but most were 8-10 inches. I managed 5-6 legal fish- all 15-16 inches. I broke my line twice- one nice fish (4-5 lbs) right at the boat and another that was probably 15 inches. . I’m done with flourocarbon.
The livescope definitely helped. Several times I saw fish on the bottom off the edge of a weedbed , hit spot lock, and kept at them until I caught one or two. At my last spot of the day I sat in 20 feet of water casting towards a weed edge in 13ft. I could see several fish on the sloped bottom. I kept hitting them in the head with the worm until they bit it. Caught 3 dinks in that spot. I kept hoping I’d come across some bigger fish, but no luck.
Still a fun day and good learning experience.

SAdoc I don't know you but I do believe I don't like you. LOL Just kidding. Glad someone had a good day. If it takes a livescope to catch them then I need to find another lake to fish. The positive side is that you caught some little ones that will grow into bigger ones soon. I'll give it a couple more tries this year and then decide.

As for fluorocarbon I have gone back to Big Game. Cost and lost fish made the change easy.

I think the key was a small stick worm on a small hook with a light weight. I used 4 inch dingers . If I tore the worm I bit off the head and kept using it- often times it was only 2 inches. I put a small splitshot about 8 inches up the line ala Bill Murphy. That’s my go to rig when fishing is tough.
Knowing a fish was there and being able to pester him into biting was a big help as well.

Thanks. I'll try it after I get some splitshot. LOL of all the things I have in the boat that is not one of them.

Choke Canyon, Calaveras, and Canyon lakes caused me to lose interest in bass fishing years ago, and now I would rather fish for catfish or anything that will bite.
Choke Canyon is pretty good fishing for cats right now from what I've heard, but most are small but they tug on your line pretty often, and they stink up a deep fryer.

Just one more cast!

I have been catching the hell out of them on a jigging spoon, I have caught as many catfish on the spoon as I have: gaspergoo, crappie, white bass. It’s one of the first times that I’ve caught this many catfish on a lure. Most on the spoon have been pretty decent sized. If a person wants to get a rod yank, the lakes good for it this year. My wife and daughter were using shrimp yesterday and I was catching as many with the spoon as they were. Good times right now.

I have caught zero lmb on the spoon, guess they are staying in the grass.

I wish. I hate living in Boerne, make a living there and then come down here to my happy place, when I can.

Understand.

Our daughter use to compete in sports against Boerne and Wimberley. Their fans were the most obnoxious and rude bunch of parents I have ever seen. If the rest of the community is like them I feel for you.

Will try to hook up with you one of these days when I am down there. The lake has to turn around one of these days soon and I am thinking and praying it will be this spring. This last time down there I tried some of my old spots and realized I'm fishing too small of an area. I did some and plan to do more searching until the spring so I have more options to try.

In the spring, we are going up the river! fish Seems like only 1 area is really producing any bass right now, at least from what I have seen over the last few months. Sure hoping the lake can get 4’-5’ of water in her.

Boerne has become really bad, parents who take their kids sports way too seriously! Worse now, more than ever.

I'm headed down this weekend and I'll have a report for you. I'll be working possum creek and three fingers in the back.
