Isn't
1/4 oz jig a bit heavy. I carry 1/8 oz max and rarely use them.
Have you tried a Beetle Spin with curl tail grubs rigged on 1/16 oz jigs?

...or with a Crappie Magnet:

Crappie Magnet grubs have been working all year also rigged on 1/24 oz or 1/16 oz jigs. At times a 4-6 # test fluorocarbon leader has helped with lure action and depth.

I make my own mini-sticks which I wacky rig on 1/16 oz jigs:

You can make one using the bodies of 2 curl tail grubs. Cut off the tails, melt the ends of each with a candle and hold together for a few seconds. It can be rigged wacky (center) or the usual way:

Spike tail grubs also have done well in lighter colors:

Feather jigs have also caught fish:

All of the above catch
all fish species when worked as
slow as possible. Much of the time I believe fish are inactive and finesse lures seem to
irritate them into striking. Once one fish strikes, others nearby get in the act. I never thought fish bite midday in 85 + degree water - something I remember fishing in when I was stationed near Wichita Falls. Man was I wrong!
I also did well a few times at night with minnows fishing under a lamp pointed down.
