I tried the Navionics chip in my H20 IFinder and it would not work. Lowrance said you need to have the latest software update in the IFinder to use the Navionics chip. I have not tried the update yet.

The chip is awesome navionics actually went in last year and did some more research. THeir are some lakes like fork, richland chambers, and cedar creek that are (extra detailed). To load the chip into your lowrance units go to menu twice, then map data, then go to map choice/display and scroll down to the part of the chip and then enter and esc back and you lake maps should load.

Guess I'm the exception, but not all that happy with the navionics chip. Last time at Fork I was motoring through an area shown by the Navionics map to be 3' deep; meanwhile the sonar was reading 21 - 24" --- and that's just one example!

What is the benefit of detailed contours if they are not accurate?

C, thats pretty accurate considering those contours are based on full pool and the lake is about 1' below pool, for whatever thats worth.

Huh? I did say 3 feet; not 30 feet! 3 feet vs 21; if that's accurate, I'd hate to see inaccurate!

maybe you made a type-o in your prior post but from what I understood you wrote

"(an area shown by the Navionics map to be 3' deep; meanwhile the sonar was reading 21 - 24")"

a type-o maybe? but 24" equals 2 Feet then add minus 1 foot for low lake level would put you in the 3 foot range smile

Yep, you're right, I did do a typo - BUT gimme a break! It would take a real loser to complain about 24 inches vs 3 feet!!!!!

Bottom line, the Navionics Hotmaps Premium south chip has a lot of similar inaccuracies for lake Fork!

Just for the sake of discussion, maybe you'd like another example. Go to N32 50.072, W95 32.421 and zoom in. According to Navionics, in this area, it drops quickly from 46 feet to 88 feet then quickly comes up to 6 feet. NOT REAL!!!!

I'm not sure all the inaccuries are with the chip. I had that problem on Rayburn in a few spots. I called Navionics and they referred me to Lowrance. Called Lowrance and they told me it was how the GPS interpereted the data...did the update on my unit and it fixed those areas.

I'm sure there are problems in places, but after reading over at BBC quite a few can be fixed with a software update to your unit.

I'm running a LCX-26c HD and the software is kept updated to the very latest available from Lowrance. If it is not the chip, funny how the Lowrance built-in maps show these same areas correctly (but without the 1' contours).

Having the same problem, too. It'll show that I should be in 6ft, but I'm in 9-10. Also, having troubles with the 1ft contours on HD lakes....all I get are 2 or 3 ft breaks.

I love my '06 chip. I am not really concerned with the depth shown on the chip as much as actually seeing the breaks, drop offs, roads, railroads, pipelines, ponds... If you want to know the depth, look at your depth finder, seems like most of yall already are.

Its good on some lakes and with some people. I returned mine for a refund. I knew more about CC than the map did. It didnt show many of the humps and drop offs that i knew about. Depth inaccuracies were also a problem. Too bad they dont hire someone to work with them on making the map really accurate. Just driving across the lake a few times while recording depths just doesnt cut it.

Well, after all the great input and some additional research; I finally bought the '06 chip. I didn't see any real advantage for L Lewisville or Ray Bob in the '07 and certainly not for the extra bucks.

Thanks again to all for the input and Have a Great Memorial Day Weekend.

I think I will let the amateurs have the lakes, though; LOL!

Later smile
