I would assume we all fall somewhere along the bell curve for mental health measurements. There are those who are mentally unstable, some really quirky, some are adverse to good hygiene, some who spend a lot of time online doing crazy post on something like TFF, to the point of being obsessive. But where along the bell curve would someone who is dangerous to himself or others likely fall? Who gets to define it? I would agree that the shooters are at the very least mentally unstable, but probably no more so than a high percentage of the population.

I read about this young pro surfer that died suddenly from heart failure. The article said he had a rare heart condition and one of the only symptoms was sudden death. So apparently you don't know about this condition until after you die. What the OP posted sounds like deep thinking, but as double D pointed out, there is no answer!! If it were that easy this stuff wouldn't happen. A quote...

A high percentage of the population isn't killing innocent people. I would say they are a little more unstable than the ones not killing people.

And why do the unstable ones always have fully automatic weapons?

The only person I know with an automatic weapon is my boss. He's also a firearms instructor, passed the requirements, and paid the thousands of dollars it costs to own said weapons.
