I’ve had a roofing business for over 20 years, a restaurant for the last 15 years and just took over another restaurant last week. You will struggle and there is no guaranteed pay check.
It’s not for everyone..... what's the new restaurant?

It’s not for everyone..... what's the new restaurant? My father in laws health is failing and he wanted out. So the wife and I have been cleaning house and getting everything set up the way she wants it. It’s Catfish as well and has been at the same location for 35 years in Irving. Only a ten minute drive so we can float pretty easily as needed.

Best of luck to you,you have the big man upstairs in your corner. Prior to the job I retired from (govt.)I worked for Eastman Kodak medical div. in Dallas, mfg.of cine film processors and projectors for 30yrs. I was told I would have a job there until I didn't want to work anymore. In 2001 they changed their mind , closed the plant and sent over 100 of us on streets .They hadn't anticipated the acceptance of a new technology... video, (pm sent)

Long story (making it longer)several years ago my wife wanted to pass on some of her canning veggies/jams recipes passed down from her grandmother to our middle daughter Camille.(google camille cortinas)It was difficult to make just one jar of pickles .Camille is a singer song writer and has gigs at coffee shops/restaurants etc. during her breaks she would sell homemade pickles and jams .It got to where the venues started using her products (Opening Bell Coffee,Double Wide, All Good Cafe,Local Yokel McKinney,Wine Therapist,Roosters Home and Hardware, etc.) They got the idea to start a small business, rent a booth and sell their products at Farmers Markets ( https://www.goodlocalmarket.org/ ) Competition was pretty steep with cottage law in effect, home made products( https://texascottagefoodlaw.com/ )so unlike many of her competitors my wife upped her game and submitted all her products to Texas A&M and FDA for testing and has certifications enabling her to sell and ship nationwide .Word of mouth and some of her big name vendors William Sonoma North Park and their St.Louis branch has them very busy,my plan was to retire ,fish every day, travel and enjoy our retirement .Somebody has to do the heavy lifting and deliveries So I hope to achieve my goal one day .In closing, starting and keeping a business, can be profitable but... it's a whole lot of work ! https://www.facebook.com/YimsFoodsHardest part is marketing it but you sir seem to have a knack for it!!!

Keep your regular job as long as you can for what security it affords you.
Hustle as much as you can with a side project that you are really passionate about.
Pray that someday it goes big and then you have the security that you need .

Running your own business will make you love the government even more when your FICA taxes double. Other than that, I liked it.

I have had my own business for 9 years this month. It is not for everyone and there are days that I hate it. The main issue is that when you own a small business you are rarely off work. You dont get paid time off, and there are no guaranteed salaries.
On the other hand, there are situations that are great like when I make a decision I dont have to check with anyone, I just have to live with the results. Of course when you work for someone you have to live the results of someone else's decisions.
I owned a business in college that did really well for a college job, but with taxes, health care, no guaranteed pay, etc, I swore I would never do it again, I was ready live off someone else's money. Then I worked for other people after college for about 5 years and got that itch again to be my own boss. I am back to mixed emotions now though. It is just tough to get a business over that hump from Profitable to self sustaining. Its really hard to grow beyond a "small" business.

I havent had a real job in 48 years, and there are a lot of times that I wish I had gone down a different path in life. Sometimes a business will just happen, like with Rudy. Its happened to me twice. I started being a courier in 1974, I was 21, to pick up some extra cash. Sold the business in 94 and had 27 couriers and 4 folks in the office. Ordered a product in 95 and when I got deliver, it was no where near what the proto type was. It was ugly and sewn poorly. I got PO'd and wife and I redesigned it, and made our own. Ended up doing a private label for the original company. it ended up in Walmart, on QVC the Home Shopping channel, and at Academy. Had fun and made money with both business. Have also intentionally gone into a business, and lost my Arse. Best advice is do something you enjoy and try to make a few buck, who knows what might happen.

I tell everybody if you have the desire and start small, go for it. Just make sure you have enough moola to hold you for 6 months. If it ain't a going, go get a job.

Started my own business in 1999 and never looks back. Had 4 really rough years getting established but pretty smooth sailing after that. Make sure you have enough reserve to cover your bills for a couple of years before you start. Then work your [censored] off!

Everyone wants to go to heaven, nobody wants to die. It takes nutz to put all you have into something, sign a personal guarantee on a loan, go without a steady check. Different breed of cat signs his name on front of check.

Bluenitro has the best answer , work for someone and have a side gig. You get the positives of both .
