So, my experience with fishing deep cranks at El Salto told me that if I'm fishing 6XDs, 8XDs, DD-22s et al., I needed a heavier rod and a low-gear reel. To that end I teamed up a Revo Winch (5.4:1) with a GLoomis E6X 844C, which Loomis allows is a swimbait rod, but differs somewhat from their heavy crankbait rod, the 845C. Both MH with ModFast action.
I also have an E6X 843C CBR which I use for smaller cranks, swimbaits up to medium divers. It's a little light for 6XD baits, however.
My question: my normal line setup is braid to leader, usually 30-50lb Sufix 832 or Power Pro to flouro 12-15 lb Seaguar red box or Invisx. Who here on TFF tosses braid-leader, or do you spool your reel with all flouro or all mono?

6xd 10lbs flouro, 8xd 12lbs red label all the way doesn't really cost that much

100% flouro. 12# invizx. Sinks, Low memory, casts well, good abrasion resistance, quiet under water, essentially invisible in the water.
If you can't find em wind em.

I am a BIG believer in McCOys mean green. I know you didn't ask about it, but I go full McCoys 10 or 12# test for all my CBs. Including the 8 and 10XDs. Fishes them VERY WELL. What I like about McCOys is the line is VERY STRONG for it's diameter, It also has a LOT of stretch, GREAT for big fish and big baits, is TUFF and has VERY LOW MEMORY. I use it on ALL of my CB rods and can't do any better with the other lines. I DISLIKE FLOURO because of the knots getting kinks in the line and other reasons, Feels like a DEAD LINE to me, but II have not tried them all. Been using McCoys since 2000 and it has never let me down. GREAT CB line and pretty good for all moving baits. Sorry to go away from what you asked, but this is what I prefer. If you do not like it, go with whatever you feel is best. I only have 5 published CB articles, so WHAT DO I KNOW??????????????????? I hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Thad Rains # Thad, I'd already spooled the Revo with 10# Invisx when I read your post, but based on your recommendation (and the number of ?'s ) I'm gonna spool up an older reel I have, a Calcutta 200 (5.1:1) with 12# Mean Green and give it a try out on Lake Travis and see what I can scrounge up. I did catch a 1lb. cruiser today on straight 50# Power Pro in 15 FOW.

Thad Rains Agreed. I use McCoys for all of my CB presentations.

12 lb Seaguar or Trilene professional grade Fluoro, 15lb for 10XD's. I tried braid with cranks a while back and I couldn't stand it. Too noisy, plus it has no stretch so your rod better be really parabolic and your drab better be set right or you're going to lose more!
Also I only use a slow gear for 10XD's. Shallow divers on up to 6XD's get a minimum of a 6 gear reel, preferably 7.

Dobyns 805 CB, Lews super duty wide spool 5.1-1 gear ratio 15 pound Invizx or 15 McCoys mean green, for DD22 and deeper like the 8XD and the 10 XD. I use both lines in 12 for cranks smaller than these.
