Thank J-Moe. Would you recommend using live bait or artificial? if you think artificial would be better do you think it should be a little George, roadrunner/rooster tail, rattle trap, or tube jigs? I have never targeted anything other than catfish down there before and appreciate your input. I don't have much experience bank fishing these yet and I am trying to get it all figured out.

Most people cast net for shad then put them on a line with a heavy weight. With the water flowing that high a heavier lure would work better. Swimbaits with a 1/4 ounce jig head is a good choice to catch hybrids and some bigger white bass. If you are there early in the morning or late in the evening the white bass might be surfacing like they do on the lake. In that case you can throw a rooster tail and catch them.

I went out and had no success this morning. I did catch some shad and sunk them down but nothing. I did pull one decent size carp out but I caught that while throwing the cast net. Maybe next time will be my lucky day.

Maybe next time will be my lucky day. You'll have plenty of opportunity to try. It will take at least 2 months to bring the lake back to normal level. Once the COE opens up the gates wide open there will be a ton of fish dumped into the spillway.

At 15 feet above normal that would be 60 days. The COE usually cuts the flow in half as it approaches a foot or so above normal, then continues to cut it in half again until it finally reaches normal level. So that adds a few more days as well. Any rain in that time frame will also add more days.

Anyone know of launching a boat anywhere?? I have heard that there are some people launching off the road at Welch park. I'm not sure if they have closed Apache hills boat ramp but if they didn't it may also be an option.

Welch is open for launching off the bank. I did it both Sunday and today. The whites are biting good on humps in 20-25 FOW and the hybrids have been very active on the surface chasing shad. Good luck!

I wish i had a boat. Any tips bank fishing with this high water? I guess I'll have to go to the dang spillway. It's tough to find info on other spots. But it beats being at work!

Well boys, I got to the lake a 4am and went to Welch without a clue of where to fish, eventually I stopped somewhere and as I'm casting for bait, a group of two guys pull in and cliam the spot I was wanting to fish. I caught some shad and so did they, I ended up fishing about 100 ft right of them and didn't get a single bite on shad. Meanwhile, these two guys proceeded to throw out about 19 poles and take the entire spot. So they pulled in whites left and right and i didn't get a nibble...even though I was casting distance from them smh. I had caught 5 whites last weekend at the spillway but that place is a nightmare right now. So once again I'm stuck without a paddle and not a clue what to do..... Any suggestions gentleman would be greatly appreciated. Dm sent @j-moe

I didn't get a DM Trav281. It's tough without having a kayak or boat. Yegua Creek Park and Rocky Creek park are great but they're closed. Welsh is great around the island but it's under water. There aren't may bank fishing options and the shad spawn is about over so the white bass will be moving out into deeper water. The only other suggestion would be to try along the lake side of the dam. Wade out and cast out as far as you can. Watch for any signs of shad or surfacing fish.

Was out Saturday evening to Welch Park and right at sunset the whitebass were up on top chasing shad.. I suspect they were working the area all day just like all the years before at this time of summer..
