doesn't have a diamond shaped head so isn't poisonous...only danger is that they might make you hurt yourself... I’d listen to beartrap. If a snake has a diamond shaped head it is always poisonous...and “poisonous” is the preferred nomenclature when referencing potential snake danger.

Rough earth snakes show to grow less than a foot in length. That one looks too big. Its hard to tell without something to use for scale. Maybe he could hold it up with a 2x3 or something

Gaboon Vipers build nests that look exactly like that nest. I’d be careful.

Only way to know 100 % , Be very careful if you try to do this as the venom can still get you if you prick yourself with the fangs. Just because the snake is dead and cannot pump the venom does not mean that whatever is in its fangs cannot make you sick.

since the nest wont pose a threat to anyone unless you are a bug or a frog, i convinced my mom to leave the nest alone. I'm just wondering how many baby snakes are going to eventually crawl out of that hole.

Can you post a better pic of the head, especially the eye. It’s really fat and has a short stubby tail which is similar to a Water Moccasin. That head is not Water Moccasin. Leave your hoe in the shed. Good snakes and good spiders should not be killed. Neighbor killed a rat snake last week. Really ticked me off. With him it is either a water moccasin or a copperhead. We rarely have copperheads and water moccasins are a good 500 yards away in a pond.

doesn't have a diamond shaped head so isn't poisonous...only danger is that they might make you hurt yourself... venomous, not "poisonous" As stated above, some snakes flatten their heads when threatened and can have similar shape to the venomous snakes. Shoot it!!!! Pour gasoline in the hole and burn them out and if the house goes so be it--collect the insurance and move. I hate snakes.
