I wear my seat belt in my truck, I don't txt and drive, I wear my life jacket and attach my kill switch tournament or not, all good things to do. Having said that, I HATE laws that say I am required to do those things or get a ticket. Govt. is too big, too powerful, and I want freedom not restriction! Govt. officials should be part time employees of ours, should build roads, maintain the military, fire, and police and that is about it. I am very sorry for those peoples loss but my kill switch does not bring their Daughter back.

That said, the only time this will be enforced is after an accident has already happened. There is no way to enforce it unless the boat is spinning out of control, then you know they didn't have it on.


Game warden pulls up to someone all they have to do is kill the engine before he gets there then you don't need the kill switch hooked up anyways. No way for them to see if you ever actually had it on.

I'm sure if a Game Warden stops you for a safety check, he will show you exactly how he checks to see if you are compliant with the law.

I rarely wear my life jacket, was the same way with seat belts, they made it a law so now I feel naked without my seat belt on, hopefully this will make me wear my life jacket and kill switch, it is a good thing to do, just have to get into the habit.

In this case the driver of the boat never fell out of the boat. I don't know if would have helped in this case but it might help someone else later.....

Most of the newer jet fleas have them. Never seen one on a boat.

Terribly worded. So does the lanyard just have to be attached to the kill switch or does it have to also be attached to the driver? Also, does this kill switch need to be worn while the boat is underway, while the big motor is on, or at all times?

I wear my life jacket and kill switch any time I'm going faster than an idle, but this sounds like it might be a pain in the a** for idling a couple hundred feet or launching/loading the boat (I fish alone a lot so there is a lot of getting in and out of the boat when loading/launching).

I do not disagree with this being a law, but ticket writers like to deal in absolutes rather than using judgment and I'm sure this will end up screwing the guy that's going 3 mph and endangering no one while the drunken wake board dummies get away scot-free.

You can wrap your kill switch lanyard around your wrist twice, then attach the hook around the lanyard. I've done this many times.

Killswitches are great and they should be used by all. I hate a law is necessary. We have enough govt as it is but with all the yahoos on the water now I can see the need for a law. Some wont use them till they�re ticketed, and some won�t after. People still drive drunk. In they past I�ve not used mine just to idle, then changed my mind on stopping and took off forgetting to clip it to my vest which I seldom take off as I�m usually by myself. For quite a while now I just leave it clipped to my vest and stuff it in my pants pocket. Problem solved. I can�t restart till I clip it into the switch. A few times listening to the gosh awful alarm and it becomes habit quick.
I also have a spare lanyard and show passengers where it is and how to use it. If I�m thrown out mine is going with me. There was a boat captain thrown out in a high school tournament and the boys didn�t know how to jimmy the switch to run the motor and the wind was so high their troll motor was too weak to rescue him. They called on phone for help and he was rescued but it could have been much worse. Not a bad idea but I hope I�m not fueling another new law!

Put kill switch lanyards on ALL your life jackets. That way if you're thrown out your passenger(s) will be able to start the boat and render aid.

I have a spare in my boat but never had thought of telling anyone how to use it. I will now, thank you!

I would have rather seen a law that you have to turn your headlights off on the boat ramp.
