My retirement plan, after 35 great years on Dallas, was to get out of Dallas. We travelled everywhere after I retired and even spent a year or so in Italy, but we eventually settled on East Texas. We have kids and grandkids here and it is hard to leave family. We love it here, but we still continue to travel when the urge hits us and pine trees start closing in.

I've lived in multiple different countries and states, and you can be happy anywhere. All of my cousins, uncles, aunts, and grandparents live or lived in England. Last 25 years, I've been on the opposite side of the world from my parents. I'd like to retire somewhere close to my children and potential/eventual grand children.

Decision time for me is right now, currently building a house on 20 acres we have between Palmer and Ennis- Its not Florida but its close to family and the 8 grandkids- The wife is still working and its not too far the her work. The new place we are building is geared for when we are not gonna be as physically able to get around, like wider doorways you can get a walker through and a bench for the shower, and no stairs or steps,. I home visited many, many elderly folks for years in my work before I retired and there a large number of people that are trapped in small sections of their home because of stairs and steps. The house should be finished in July, then we are going to have a pond dug out, there is a spot were two small creeks intersect that will make a great little pond.
There tons of areas that are "nicer' but we can just go visit there and come back home.

I've lived a lot of places compliments of Uncle Sam and by default from my place of birth. Remember, the grass is always greener over the septic tank.

Retired 7 years ago to Sun City Georgetown Tx. Wifes choice. Live on one of our 3 golf courses and drive my own golf cart on streets. Nice place to be but I would prefer to be on water with a boat house.
Some people go to church and think about fishing. Some go fishing and think about God.

I'm going to retire in a sweet van. I'll be chasing the weather for a constant 70 degrees and hooking up with hippie chicks that don't shave their armpits or legs.

Who would want to drive in a van??? Who wouldn't want too. Free spirit my brother. Nothing but the open road and pure adventure. I'm even having a cover band re-record the ZZ Top song..."'Cause every girl crazy 'bout a dude in a sweet a$$ van" to play on loud speakers as I cruise small towns and check out the local festivals.
