Just burn the ends to keep them from fraying and you'll be all set!  I think all of mine have the grab handles built into them now but you could do this to them as well just put it through the handle and not into the waterproof compartment itself.  We used to do that to all of our AR15 magazines to have pull tabs in them so you could get them out of the magazine pouches.
