Everyone saying they all use spinning rods and target dinks. Either don't watch or just see what they want. I see guys fishing just like every other tournament. Flipping bushes and docks, throwing whopper ploppers and bladed jigs.

One thing I do believe is interesting about this format is having to manage your fish. How many of those BPT record holders went on to win? Seems like they guys that tear it up during first 2 rounds dont do as well as those that barely get in, on the last 2 days of fishing.
I havent looked at the actual weights to see if there is a rend there, but it seems like it has been that way. So you have to catch enough to make the top 40, then the top 10, but not too much that you run out of fish. May not be an issue on a lake the size of Table Rock though.
If pros were coming to your local lake, would you prefer to see 80 of the best anglers trying to hook every fish they can, or go after best 5? I wonder which is harder on the fishery. I haven't looked to see if it happens often, but Josh Bertrand finished second in his prelim group with 82 bass for 120 pounds, and then finished dead last today. Maybe he should have saved some of those fish for today. On the other hand, Zach Birge finished second in his prelim group and then second today, so who really knows?

My thoughts are more with the anglers than the format whether it be BPT, MLF, BASS or FLW. These men have a tough life being away from their family and trying to make a living against tough competition and facing all types of weather conditions. I just hope they get paid and can make a decent living for themselves and their families no matter which trail they compete in. There are no million dollar purses like in golf and tennis so if you're not in the top 10 every tournament the money is small. Without sponsors many of them wouldn't last a year. I wish them all the best as they pursue their dreams.
I am a Senager. (Senior teenager) I have everything that I wanted as a teenager, only 50 years later. I get an allowance every month. I have PU truck and a bass boat, I am blessed. Conscience never acquits, it either accuses or excuses.

Flipping bushes and docks, throwing whopper ploppers and bladed jigs. Yep, it's simply the weighing every scoreable bass that some on here can't come to grips with. Change is hard on some people, they fight it to the death.

If this was a best 5 tournament these guys would be fishing the exact same?

They should just keep ALL the little spots they have been targeting this week and have a fish fry every evening. If they came back to Table Rock every year and did that at every tournament, eventually the fishing would really improve.

Lastly, it's a very convoluted system to understand. How points for AOY are earned, all the different cuts and pre rounds and so forth. I don't want to do calculus to know how/why my favorite angler is doing well/bad. Also, it doesn't seem fair for some of these guys to go in an knock out a great round and it be whipped clean and get, in all reality, no credit for it. That would be my frustration if I were an angler fishing that format. I feel it also makes all the "records" that are being broken, kind of moot. WHo cares if you caught x amount of pounds or x amount of fish for two days if it all gets whipped clean in the end. It doesn't really matter in the end. There's no money or real recognition. Now Dean Rojas' huge bag, we all remember that and know how impressive that was.
You're certainly entitled to your opinion but just to note that it requires no calculus. Only a click. You simply click on Scoretracker and they show you who's in the lead... then you simply click on Standings and they show you the money and points leaders, again no math to perform. Lastly, I would say that any of the previous stage winners would tell you that there's both real money and recognition on the line. This one baffled me for sure. I understand I can see where they are, but how are those point calculated? They may have put it out there at some point, and I may be ignorant of it, but it's by no means common knowledge such as BASS and FLW, and how they tally AOY points. To the second point, to clarify, I don't mean to say that they aren't getting paid. I'm well aware they get paid, but I mean in the sense that those weights just get cleaned out. So it's somewhat meaningless.

I agree with this whole heartedly, but if there isn't something there to keep the majority entertained, then sponsors aren't going to waste there time, thereby affecting the anglers. It's definitely a circular ecosystem.

It's funny how heated this little debate gets. I like the show and would enjoy fishing an event with the same format. What is shocking to me in those standings is KVD's position near the very bottom. He has been very successful in this format since it started and I am shocked he's down that low. I've intentionally not watched any live online stuff and avoided seeing details results so I can watch the shows when they air on TV. Hard to find 4-5 hours to watch live coverage.

From what I gather, 1st place = 80 pts, 2nd place = 79 pts, etc.

I don't care for the idea of a guy piling up pounds by sitting on and hammering 13 inch schooling fish, but to each his own. Just take your rattletrap and topwater and you're good to go.
