I went to Wall mart and bought a 8 ft tree stack. It has a sharp point on it. Made from fiberglass it has ridges to grip it by and was only $8.00

Was looking to do the same (with threaded couplers to make it more portable). Sincere question - is there an issue with simply cutting the end at an angle? Most the bottoms are muddy that should be easily penetrable. Sorry if it is a stupid question -I'm probably overlooking something big and simply haven't worked with pvc enough...

The tree stakes from Walmart already have a pointed end on them.

Here's what I use for my stake out pole- 6' 3/4" fiberglass tree stake from Walmart for 7 bucks. The t-handle is a 3/4" PVC tee with 3/4" caps on each glued to about a 6" piece of 3/4" Class 200 pvc pipe. I used Amazing Marine Goop to glue the pvc pipe to the tree stake. The leash is just some paracord with a SS carabiner. Works great when fishing the saltwater flats. I do need to add a pool noodle to it just in case.
