I'm taking the family to Estes Park Colorado and none of us have been there before. We will be there in June and staying in a cabin on Fall River. I would like to do some fishing. Is anyone familiar with the area and can someone tell me what type of tackle I will need and what areas are good to fish there. I would like to get a fly rod but my kiddos will probably need light spinning gear. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Chance the water could be really high in the river. Look into some ponds for the kids. Maybe runoff will not be in full swing yet.
Panther Martins work great for trout. These patterns work great for me in # 2,4 and sometimes # 6 size. I pinch the barbs for ease of release when swallowed deep.
Wyoming has a free fishing day first Saturday in June if you want a short drive north, Colorado has free fishing day that same weekend, no license needed.
Hope you have a great time and catch some trout !
Keep the line light as well, 6 lbs is good. A bobber and worms are great for brookies, they take the spinners too. I target browns, mainly, with my tackle.

Regarding fly selection, give Kirk's Fly Shop in Estes Park a call. They will take good care of you.

Estes Lake and Marys Lake are stocked heavy and will keep the kiddos busy with salmon eggs and worms. For you a 5 wt flyrod will do. When the bows start feeding on top try #14 Adams or Elkhair Caddis is all you'll need. GL

Good advise above. In June it can still be chilly for the kiddos. Snowed on us there one July 4.

Enjoy the park...its a special place.

Yep, sorry my spinners were meant for kidos.
Trout should be hungry . Beadheads like a prince should work and stimulators. Locals fly shop will help with patterns hot at the time and sizes. Sometimes a drop is needed .
Rainbows should be spawning in June.

I second this. Real nice people, too.
