I guess you never know when that special day on the water fishing is gonna happen! As for me� The dad of this of this amazing kid! I've been fishing for 45 years trying to catch that double digit largemouth bass like all great anglers. Right?
It was Sunday 04/07/2019 a day I will never forget!!
A buddy of mine said Lake Alvarado sure is on fire if you can find a way to get on it! I just so happened to have a friend that had a private boat ramp there.
And the story goes� I walked in my son�s room, he was playing his new MLB 19 that he had gotten on the way home from qualifying for State in the High School Bass Association.
I asked him if he wanted to go try a new lake. He said where? I said Lake Alvarado, my buddy said it's on fire and that they�ve seen multiple 10 pounders come off that lake.
I can't believe he said sure and put that new Xbox game up! But I'm sure glad he did!! It�s a memory that will never be forgotten!!!
As soon as we got on the water we started flipping the cattails and he misses one right off the bat! Then I catch one.
We don�t have any luck for the next half hour or so and make a move, my buddy said fish the red boat dock, and this is where dad gets a little bit of credit! Lol
I said let's try this spot and work our way down to the red boat dock that was about 100yrds away , we make about 2 or 3 flips and come to a couple of pipes that run down in the water I make a flip or 2 at them , nothing ! Then my son Chase makes a flip right in the middle of them and I'm thinking to myself " he's gonna get hung up in there " then i see him reel down and makes that big hook set! And it's like he hit a wall , and I'm thinking to myself again " i knew he was gonna get hung up there " lol
I watch for maybe 2 seconds and see the rod give a little bit and hear him say " it's big one " !! Get the net!!!
We didn't have the net out so I'm opening up the compartment to get the net when I look to see the fish and it was like a movie!!! It came up in slow motion and did that famous tail walk!!
That's when I realized it was a fish of a lifetime!! We weren't saying anything to each other, he was doing his job and I was trying to do mine with the net! That's when my nerves got me! I was so excited that I pulled the handle out of the net getting it extended!!
But Chase didn't panic! And I got the handle back in in one shot.
I look for the rod tip and the line to see where I needed to be, the fish was digging going under the boat!! But Chase kept his cool and I didn't say a word to him! Lol
I saw the rod tip coming up and prepared myself for just one chance! Please give me one chance for this fish with the net!
When I netted it all I could say was just �my gosh what have you just caught Chase??!!!�
Then the hugs and high 5 began over and over!
Got her in the live well and started calling my fishing buddy's lol
I'm so happy it was my son that caught that fish!! Even though I've chased a fish like that for 45 years! It means so much more to me that I was with my son and my best fishing buddy EVER!!!
