I might be wrong but I assumed (know how that usually goes) the boat captain had to be the boat captain during the official practice day. This is from the itinerary for a regional tournament. Good question that needs clarification though.

BOAT CAPTAINS CAN NOT FISH SATURADY APRIL 6TH. They can fish Friday April 5th. ALL RULES MUST BE FOLLOWED ON OFFICAL PRACTICE DAY.

This is true and was the second reason for us being DQ'd I was not aware that my dad had to be in the boat during pre fishing on Friday. So he only pre fished for half of the day and we stayed out because he had to work.me and my brother found a school of deep prespawn fish without having my dad there during practice. we finished in 6th. (to make it very clear my dad was obviously there during the tournament) But according to some of y'all shouldn't a 18 and 16 year old be at a disadvantage if they are doing it on there own against "local pros" and guys with years more experience than they do? Im not denying that what me and my brother did didn't warrant the punishment we received. and I'm glad that the rules were enforced, without it the sport could not function, but when rules like this get you labeled a cheater in a sport where honesty is everything its frustrating. And this is a mistake we will not make again.

Thanks for clarifying, that�s what I thought. I�m not judging you at all but did you read the full rules and the regional itinerary? I only ask so everyone can see the importance of reading the rules. Many team members and the boat captains don�t read the info put out. I know this first hand after having to repeat the rules time after time and then having to enforce them after they still wanted to violate them because they stated they didn�t know any better.

Unfortunately you had to pay the price but learned a valuable lesson. We all have, part of growing up. Like others stated, keep your head up and move on. I certainly don�t look at is as cheating, just making some mistakes.

Sounds like we have the same thinking. I still haven�t let my son, who just turned 18, out by himself yet. I�m getting close but haven�t yet. He�s driven it by himself but I was out on the lake in another boat. His girlfriend came back to where we were parked and said they got it up �in the 70�s�. That was his first time driving it without me in the boat.

This is all crazy talk. I was learning to back a trailer with a driver's permit. At 16 I could take it out alone. I am not sure my dad knew how to drive his boat. I was the chauffeur. He sent me out solo to find out how fast it would run.

Wonder if some of these kids even have a boaters card?

I've read and reread the rules. I don't see where "overhearing a guy at work" should be a disqualifiable offense. It's not a barter or purchase violation. If this is really what happened I really question enforcing the rule that way.

How long ago and how fast did it run? I drove my pop's old boat by myself as a teen too. It topped out about 35.
Mine is capable of reaching upper 70s with the right driver. It's also capable of killing a driver (or someone else) who doesn't know what he's doing.

Some do. The rules state that they have to have one to assist with boat launching.
