Looking for opinions on the best ultralight spinning reel or rod/reel combo - under $100. I have a cheap Shimano combo that I've had for years and frankly it's junk. Last night I bought a Pfleuger combo from Cabela's and it seems like a good reel. I've been really pleased with the Pfleuger President series reels and have a few of those. I guess I was a little surprised at the small selection at Cabela's, but hopefully this new combo will work out ok.

I haven't bought any rod/reel combo's in 35 years or so.

I just don't think they are worth it.

All of my Ultralights have Lew's or Shimano reels on them as well as my Medium Light spinning set ups. cheers

I may get flamed for this, but the little Shakespeare Ugly Stick Dock Runner combo for about $15 is my favorite pole. It's only sbout 3 feet long but it has not handicapped me a bit. Extremely durable and I've caught probably 75% of my fish over the last couple years on that cheap little pole. I spooled it up with 10 ib powerpro when I got it. I think the line cost me as much ad the pole.

I mostly run around with that little pole and a beetle spin in tributaries after work and do pretty good. A $15 pole and an 82 cent lure. Out of all the thousands I have spent on fishing stuff, this is where I ended up!
