Thats the way we always ate them growing up. My folks thought it too wasteful to filet them!! Mom would always comb thru the flesh to make certain no bones for my younger brothers. We ate all fish that way.

Why didnt you clean it or filet it? Ive eaten whole small channel cats like that, with no head and skinned. He did clean it. It's scaled, gilled, and gutted. That's how the majority of fish are eaten in the world. Im not mad at him but in my world I filet crappie. As I mentioned Ive eaten channel cat that way skinned but no head. My grandparents cooked them and they went through The Great Depression. I understand not wasting food but.....I still cook my small channel cat whole, with no head and skinned. Hail, I may try it just to see???

Hail, I may try it just to see??? Oh, I hear ya. I pretty much fillet everything, but every now and then cook them whole, like if I'm only bringing one or two home for lunch. Some people think he's just throwing the whole fish in the grease, that's USUALLY not the case.

as a kid who spent summers at grandpaws house,..me and my little brother scaled Crappie with a tablespoon til we had blisters, and scales allover us. But it was worth it, we learned how to pick out the bones at an early age,.. and theres nothing better than a big crispy tail,...yum
