GV is fishable even in my small Skeeter 30+ if out of the south I would just put in on the south side and not stray too far from the bank. Straight north not too terrible but if at all from the west forget it I'm staying home.

I can tolerate more wind in summer than winter. When the trolling motor comes up out of the water its time to head to the house... fish

As others have said, its VERY lake dependent. While I do fish some tournaments, they are still fun fishing for me and I have my limits. Like last year's Ray Roberts Champs tournament.....350+ sustained out of the North...no thanks.....we still fished but didn't even think about trying to get to the areas we had hammered them in practice. Just the short run from State Park to Sand Branch was bad enough. Most lakes if its 20 sustained I am not going out but on a little lake like Monticello, if its 20 but from the right directions, it no problem at all.

I found my limit last spring. When they say 20-30 mph sustained winds, I'm staying home. I thought putting in the back of a creek would make things easier but when it's blowing that hard you can't get away from it anywhere.

However when I have a tournament all that goes out the window. Saturday they are calling for SSW winds 20-30 with gusts over 40. And severe thunderstorms early. Tenkiller isn't a huge lake but of course it runs SW to NE so it will be a wind tunnel

The BFL's also kick off on Grand so that will make things interesting. That lake is no joke with winds like that

The main thing is how rough the lake gets. Many times you can find a section of water that isnt rolling. Otherwise just hit a smaller lake.

This Saturdays predicted winds are too much for me. I will get as many home chores done as I can so I can go next weekend.

See you on the lake and have a great day!

We had to answer that question for our club. We allowed some of our members to make the policy on when you can cancel a reservation because of wind without a penalty (fee). The number our group arrived at was greater than 20 mph.

I've been on Fork in 60mph in an aluminum boat. Went south from Minnow Bucket and found fish were schooling and biting like crazy by the dam. I saw what I thought was just a storm coming and put on raingear when I should have been putting on life jackets. Made it half way back to Minnow Bucket before it hit us. Boat was moving vertically with the trim all the way down. Made it back and got it on the trailer and my clients called it quits. That day could have been tragic.
For me on Fork, 18 is about as much as I'll fish on the big water. 25 is about as much as I'll cross the biggest part of the lake. 40 is about my max to fish somewhere out of the wind. Fortunately, there is so many boat ramps that there's always somewhere safe for a veteran boater with modern equipment running a fishing business.
Good advice is to stay on land if it's more than 15mph. Even on the windy days, it usually slows down at some point - and that's probably when the fish will bite better anyway.

In my kayak I like to keep it under 12mph.
Somewhere over 15 I can no longer gain any headway.
