looks like the launching your boat debate has about run it's course and maybe a few people will try dumping their boat and speed up the launching process on crowded days at the ramp....most of us have sat in our boats and hour or more waiting to load their boats and go home....here's something that will speed up the loading process...

have you ever paid attention to the pros and fishermen who have fished a lot of tournys load their boats?....typically they have somebody back their trailer in and they run the boat up on the trailer all way to the winch stop then they keep the big engine in gear and about halfway trimmed up but still pushing against the winch stop....they motion for the driver to pull up the ramp...as the trailer comes out of the water and boat settles on the trailer and prop starts to clear the water, the pro shuts off the engine and finishes trimming the engine all the way up as the truck driver pulls the rig to a parking space...

amateur has somebody back his trailer into the water, runs boat up on trailer, then runs to front ,leans over front to hook up winch strap then back to shut off engine and trim it up before signaling to driver to pull up the ramp...probably takes 2-3 minutes longer than pro method....couple minutes savings not much....until you multiply it by 100 boats.....
am sure somebody will mention a boat falling off a trailer because winch strap wasn't hooked up.....I've fished tournys since early 70's and never seen that happen..I've loaded a dozen or so different boats hundreds of times this way since the mid 80's with no problems ..I'm sure it could happen if you had a trailer with rollers on it or if you put something on your trailer bunks to make them slick or you failed to hook up winch strap when bunks have ice on them.....

I back my trailer in far enough that I can run the boat nearly to the bow stop. Shut off motor, tilt it up, climb over bow, and winch it up that last bit.

This makes way too much sense.

The off topic fishermen are the quickest boat loader / launchers ... I'm sure of it.

I just choose never to fish where there is this much boat traffic.

I stay away from lakes that have tournaments. I hate them. If i absolutely have to fish a tourney lake, I'll load and unload at off times. Too many high blood pressure type A pesonalities in one place at the same time is a recipe for disaster

I don't launch from busy ramps and tend not to fish popular lakes.
Only time I would consider not winching up and safety chaining is if there was a bad storm rapidly approaching.

The only time I wench the boat down on the ramp is on a real steep ramp. Otherwise I get out of the way and handle that stuff in the parking lot.

I'm an all pro in this category... only time I hook the bow strap before my partner pulls us up the ramp is when its super steep and bumpy. Thats every time I'm on the lake regardless if I'm the only boat on the water or in a 300 boat tournament. As a point of reference, Squaw ramp is not steep enough to require hooking up the bow strap. Launching solo is different, but again even if I'm the only boat there I launch and load super fast and get off the ramp. I've never timed it, but would guess my actual time of blocking a lane of the ramp while launching or loading solo is 2 minutes or less depending on how far of a walk it is from the ramp to where I tied up or beached the boat. Time blocking a lane of the ramp when launching or loading with a partner is less than 1 minute.
