Sometimes what didn't work out for you, did in fact, work out for you.

Haters going to hate and believers are going to believe.

Every man has two lives,The second one starts when he realizes that he has only one.

Sometime historical importance is in the eye of the beholder.

So that's how that got started. How did he keep them from sliding off? I get it now - there weren't even such things as tires back then. You had me going for a minute. Funny!

My sister, the local family historian was sorting stuff. She gave me a bag of paper to burn so I spent time at the fire pit today. Anyhow tonite before dinner she brought forth her findings. Remember, this is Moms office.

Mom was an Arkansas Brazil, or so we thought. Turn out that grampa Brazil was a Texan from Taylor. That was the first surprise.

The second surprise...

The Brazils immagrated from Ireland. They were then known as Braswell. They were seafarers, good Navy men, like me. Brea is a hill or slope, well is a spring. Anyhow, Moms papers say that a man, Eremon, supposedly a legendary figure, in 335 B.C. sailed from Spain to Ireland to plant the Brazil clan. The Brazils flourished, and in about the year 500, a member of the clan called Brendan went on a seven year voyage and visited the new world. In the year 800 the Brazil clan left Ireland bound for the new world. Her docs said they came to America, didnt say which one, and gathered dye products and returned to Ireland to market dyes. Ancient records confirmed the Brazil clan named many dyes. It is noted that later the clan Brazil sailed to South America to explore for more dye products. They discovered more of the same products and returned to market them in Ireland. The South America they got there dye products from was given the name Braezeale, the ancient spelling of Braswell. That name eventually evolved into the modern name Brazil.

Im not lying or drunk, yet. This is from Moms personal papers. I had never seen them before. BUT, mom didnt cotton to BS.

I promise not to raise yalls taxes.

My Maternal Grandfather was a Braswell (via Geaorgia and then Arkansas).

The Brazil discussion makes me think of Donna Brazile, she's from NOLA ya know.

I'm not going to make fun of your Mom's research but I will retell a story on my end.

A couple years ago my niece was thinking of applying for DAR membership but no one in my immediate family could recall anyone that had been here long enough to qualify her.
So my niece starts digging. The best line she could find was through my paternal Grandmother's family. Now my Grandmother was fiercely proud of her Irish heritage so image the surprise when my niece traced the line back to John Rolfe, the Englishman that married Pocahontas (yes the real Pocahontas).
Then my niece went on to detail that further research went back to Edward II, King of England.

At this point I had to call BS and started looking at her research. The straight and true line could only go back a little more than 150 years. Then there were a couple general suppositions and even a great leap of faith.

Don't think she ever got the DAR qualification and I for one don't really believe all the other 'research'.

It was not Moms research, it is her cousins research.

I just found that one of my great, great, great, grandmothers invented fire.

Should have patented it. I see that stuff being used all the time. We didnt make a dime off of it.

Fire and a splash guard for a Blizzard machine. 2 of the most important inventions of our time.

Here's my story. I got my DNA results(I know, I know) back yesterday. My Daughter got the kit for me at Christmas. Anyway I found out I am more Native Indian than Elizabeth Warren. It said I am more than 1%. Eat your heart out EW
