I have had a Bass Pro Shops telescopic for about the last 8 years now. Here are my problems with them:
1) I keep having problems with the compression joints failing.
2) I also don't like how your fishing line gets all wrapped up in the spiral wire at the end of the pole.
3) They are heavy.
4) It is also amazing how hard it is to grab your fishing line with that spiral wire sometimes.

Has anyone owned a Stumpmaster telescopic lure retriever? They are sold on Ebay. I like the design of the retrieving head. I have one concern. When you extend one of the sections, what keeps it from pushing back into the other section?

I don't have one but just ordered a DotLine Telescopic lure retriever. Hope it works good and I don't have to use it too much

I have the BPS one too, it is amazingly hard to thread the line down the twisted thread. Line gets caught on every freaking other thing, except that spiral section. bang

Exactly! I am so glad I am not the only one that feels this way.

Man I use the one that looks like a lure bit its solid lead, has two hoops on top and two small pieces of chain on the bottom. i have about a 25' piece of nylon tied to it and that's it. I keep it laying in a tray that's easy access. Cost about 8 bucks if I remember right. Loop the hoops on your fishing line, Keeping it snug. The weight goes down to the lure and knocks it off or the chains get hooked into the hooks. Easy and I have saved tons of lures of all kinds with it!! And it takes up no room in the boat. will fit in a sandwich bag.

Yes, they serve their purpose. I fish with my Wife. It's hard to get a lure out of a tree with these heavy weight and string types. HA!

I use one that looks just like the DotLine Telescopic lure retriever, and Stumpmaster telescopic lure retriever. Like it better than the others I have used. Same problem getting line through the wire at the end. Still like it better than the one I call hound dog. Easier to stow than a bunch of string on the end of the retriever.

A cheap orange buoy marker has a great string to tie onto the hound dog...
