Texas Toast colored Slab bandit in size medium with a black jighead.
COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

These ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2019/02/full-10937-1877-20190102_162420.jpg) A little history lesson on Jigum Greasebath...Jiggum and Matt (Greasebath) kinda borrowed a color combo from Laner (white hot). When the first order dropped to Matt, the new color had not been named. Matt showed up to fish with myself and a couple of my buddies on Cedar Creek. Before we left to fish, Matt insisted we go over to Jiggums house so he could pick up his order of Jigs...essentially a full range of weight and hook sizes of these Jigs. Of course, I bummed a dozen or so of them, as the color combo excited me. The next day we were fishing with Laner (he guided with Big Crappie at the time). Throughout the day, Matt was using those baits (double poles) exclusively, and catching every type of fish in the lake, just not very many crappie, relative to the rest of us. My buddies and I were slinging crappie in the boat like they were going out of style (kinda usual for Big Crappie customers fishing with Laner) and giving ole Matt a real hard time about catching trash fish (non-Crappie). I noticed Laner looking at Matt (kinda feeling sorry for him, I suppose). Just then, Laner looked at his graph, did a double take and started backing the boat up to make it easy for Matt to hit a brushpile. I instantly hooked up on a good fish (2 lb). Suddenly, Matt hooked up a big fish, in fact it is the current lake record black crappie on Cedar Creek. Needless to say, Matt got the last laugh (which he did not take). That very night Jiggum met us for dinner and officially named the jig The Greasebath. As Paul Harvey used to say...and now you know the rest of the story!

As stated above Id really hate to have to choose just one........but if I absolutely had to choose just one it would most certainly be bright white body with a chartreuse tail and a black 1/16 oz head.

I actually typed orange and then deleted and put black......theres no doubt bright orange is a favorite of mine in my backyard but the question was a hypothetical one bait question so I had to tone it down a bit......at the end of the day its not what we like but what the fish want

There are a lot of good jig makers, but nobody came close to Matt aka Jigum Jigs. He was in a league of his own. Glad to see you're tying Matt's original jigs. May have to order a few from you. SlabbedSilly, is that Jigum's Grease Bath? Yes sir, it certainly is (or my version anyway). Jigum was instrumental in helping me and encouraging me to get into tying jigs. One of the last text messages I got from him told me to feel free to use any of his patterns. He was a great man. I am going to be able to fish the tournament honoring Jigum in April. I put together a tournament prize which includes some original Jigum Jigs that I have had for years. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2019/02/full-10937-1976-20190113_220919.jpg) Chris

Mine would be "Neapolitan". A little olive/brown, white and pink. I'm basing my 2019 choice on the results from 2018 when I first had this jig tied and started fishing it. Have one in the boat right now that has close to 300 fish to it's credit. A little bent and beat up but still producing like the day it was first tied on. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2019/02/full-100147-2926-20190217_221544.jpg) >E

Thank you for sharing Crapicat! I knew MOST of the back story having fished with Lane for awhile now, but glad you could fill in the blanks!

No problem, Slabbedsilly. Lane is kinda the strong, silent, intense type person, not to mention a fellow horned frog. I have a high opinion of him, which he has earned honestly. I have always been proud of his growth and accomplishments. He taught me how to fish his baits effectively, showed me how he makes his baits, and spent a good amount of time discussing his business/guiding philosophy, back when he was just starting out. I have seen him help others that were just starting out, at my request. With all that said, sometimes Laner doesnt get the credit he so richly deserves. So, I decided to tell this little story, because emulation is the sincerest form of flattery. Jiggum had some very good color combos and tied some very good Jigs...and the Greasebath was based off of Laners White Hot, which is one of my all time favorite colors that Lane produces....And I remember very well the long conversations that we had concerning that particular jig, both me and Jiggum, but especially Lane and I.
