jsinn01 I truly believe you hit the nail on the head with that answer my friend. Or it sure seems to always work out like that. LOL

So today I hit Irwin Bridge first thing and did pretty good. I caught 9 whites in no time at all. All of them were males ranging from 10 , to 12 inches. They appeared to be a little on the skinny side as well so I decided to leave and head on over to Newmans Bottom. At Newmans Bottom I also wanted to fish downstream from the trail way bridge over by the low water crossing to see how the fishing was over there because I talked to three anglers on Sunday that did very well over there. You know how it is, that good ole curiosity killed the cat type thing. I had to go see if I was missing out on something. LOL
I did not do so well downstream today; therefore I will be walking upstream from here on out. I ended my day with a total of 14 white bass. I was going to drive back to Irwin bridge to finish out the day but my lower back was shot by this time and I decided the best thing to do is just leave, dont overdo it.
Plans are to return tomorrow, catch up with J-moe and see if he and I can find a few good pockets that are holding some nice fat bigger females.

Had a good day yesterday. I caught and released 52 fish. About 10 of those were nice slab crappie full of eggs. I might have even caught my PB crappie, I'm guessing it weighed around a pound and a half. But the belly was huge with eggs and she was thick. I'm sure these crappie will get caught by someone and end up in the grease, but they put up a good fight for crappie. I might get the opportunity to go back this afternoon, time will tell.

Maybe I should add something to my post. Caught 19 at Newman's Bottom, then went to Irwin bridge and caught another 33 in a very short time frame.

Have a nice day at Newman's Bottom yesterday. Left with 25 white bass. I caught 20 and J-Moe gave me two and Fishytx gave me 3. I left at about 1:30, so I could have stayed and caught 5 more but the guys saved my another one and I had a long drive back to Austin and fish to clean. Had a great time getting to meet J-Moe and Fishytx and to fish with them a little. They are both great fisherman and it always helps to watch how other people fish and pickup on things you might not know about.

Good to meet you to Troy. I like it when I can put a face to a name on TFF.

So on my way back home today I spoke to J-Moe a little bit, was wondering if he had made a trip to the creek. Shortly after he and I got off the phone I received a text from another friend who said he was on his way to the creek. I called him up and told him I would try to get out there and fish with him a little bit even though it was kind a late in the day. I arrived at 4:45 and we fished till 6:30 and we did ok I guess, we both took home a dozen fish each. We caught some decent crappie as well. The fishing will probably slow down during the next few days as the barometer continues to rise and the water cools down. There could still be a bite in the morning first thing, but then it should start to really slow down. Oh yea, saw several other anglers walk out with some nice stringers today as well. And we were at Irwin Bridge.
Water temp is still pretty warm, not sure how fast it will cool down...
Tight lines everyone and stay warm this weekend; Fishytx <"/////><

You can but you need to know how to get up in the mouth of the creek and it's a pretty good little run. Guys go up there in kayaks and I have seen boats up there before but not lately. Guess I'm really not the right person to answer your question. There has to be a good reason why I don't see very many boats, maybe someone else will chime in.

Are the creeks on the west side of the lake? I was looking to launch at Yegua Creek Park but looking at google earth.. it looks like all the big creeks are on the other side of the lake?

Wrong end of the lake. You want to head upstream into the Yegua creek.

It was a different world when we were boys and girls....

At Newmans Bottom, do you have to walk one mile from the gate to the bridge?

I know at this time the weather is not ideal fishing weather. But for you diehard fisherman, as soon as you are able to tolerate the cold weather you should catch some fish. I have caught white bass when it was so cold that the water on my line would freeze when it made contact with the tip of my rod. They were in the deeper body of water. I thought I would pass this on since some of you have a very tight schedule.

On slow fishing days when the fish are spawning presentation of your bait could make the difference between a empty stringer and a stringer of fish. The fish near the bank seem to be the more aggressive fish. good luck.
