The greatest movie ever
The greatest miniseries ever
The greatest character ever
From the greatest book ever
Came to life on tv’s across the country. I still tune in and watch it every time I see it on tv.

And Diane Lane was so hot. Would.

It was like Roots only better. But the best line in a movie ever was, " I love the smell of napalm in the morning " Thank you Robert for all the movies.

Woodrow has just buried Gus and puts up the grave marker made of the famous Hat Creek Cattle Company sign. Woodrow says: “I guess this’ll teach me to be careful about what I promise in the future.”

My youngest son was so enamored with the movie he named his cow dog Woodrow. The scene where Gus lost his legs was heart wrenching for me. I was truly emotionally involved and that doesn't happen by just any movie. Great movie with great actors.

I had a dog named Woodrow, I currently have a dog named Lorrie, and had been saving the name Gus for in case I had a son, but since my daughter is a daughter, and my wife wouldn’t let me name her Gus (yes, that conversation took place), my next male dog will be named Gus.

I remember Friday nights, eating Pizza Hut and watching Lonesome Dove with my folks. We ate from TV trays, and it was the most exciting thing for the week. My childhood sucked.

Conceptually similar, but there’s a complete absence of wood.

Sawhorse, read the book. Don’t post on here again until you do. You are not a complete man until you do so.

Then, read the others. Not quite as good, but still excellent.

You should be ashamed.

D2 is 100% correct.

Also, The Border Trilogy by Cormac McCarthy should be required reading for all Texas students

I suggest reading the book first and then watching Lonesome Dove.
i enjoyed all that series of books but Lonesome Dove was my favorite.
Most of the series movie sequels were good but no comparison to the original imo.
One of the movie series was a sort of a knockoff i guess you'd call it - Streets of Laredo maybe? It was OK but not great
That guy was one helluva writer. I read some of his other stuff and it was all good but Lonesome Dove set the bar at an untouchable notch far as I'm concerned.

Jon-

The knockoff that didn’t follow any of the Larry McMurtry books was Return To Lonesome Dove. It was horrible. Jon Voigt was in it.
