Find stratified bait and thump with an oar, cane, rubber mallet etc. The fish will show up within minutes. Up to you to figure out their biting preference. I have been thumping for over 8 years, works hands down by far better than not.

Were the whitebass/hybrid guys catching fish? Many, many fish have met hot grease at my house, due to thumpers/splashers.

If you are not thumping, then you are missing an opportunity to catch more fish. Two hours slabbing,1 white. Same spot, same slab, thumping, last hour 65 fish. That is the math that convinced me.

What would be interesting is to get near a school and use Livescope and see how the fish react to it. I guess that would be a defining moment, wouldnt it?

Now that would be a great idea. I'm gonna need to pull together $2500 for a livescope system...

I took my thumper to texoma last fall. We were marking fish and getting bites but the bite had slowed. Broke out the thumper and turned it on and picked up two striper. Waited a bit and cranked it up a little and picked up another again almost instantly. I am convinced they work but thats just me...

In the mid sixties I fished with a guy Named Glade Reed he had a tin boat . He used a rubber mallet on the bottom of the boat. That was the first I seen what we have always
called sand bass boogie. I have seen everything used, rubber mallets, canes. I have always used my hand. the mechanical thumpers work that a lot of people make. They do work
but no way to prove they do or don't. My opionion is they do.

I'm not sure what you would learn from Livescope but I fished with Bob Maindelle of Holding the Line Guide Service and watched the school come up under the boat on Livescope. He was using his own design thumper and the school of fish appeared around the slab lures we were using. We caught several and the school moved in and out under the boat. We did not test the no thumping part of the trial but the fish showed up every time we started thumping at each location we tried. I believe that it is a valuable tool to help catch fish.

Its not magic. You have to be able to find fish first. Then you have to get them in the mood to bite.
Some times there all ready biting. I let them eat when they are and use thumping and splashing to fire them up when they slow down or are not biting.

^^^^^^^
This

There's a time and place for it. It's not needed every time you fish.

EXACTLY! Pretty soon you'll be wanting it to stay cold a few extra months. It's hard to beat the thump.

Its an aluminum wheel with 4-40 holes to fit 6 mm shaft and I added 3 flat brackets cut on angle. But that motor is only 30 rpm and and not that strong and the set screw wouldnt hold so the wheel spun on shaft so I booger welded it on. The wheel is aluminum so I couldnt weld it but I welded the three brackets/arms together and then I welded them to the end of the shaft and they are screwed to the wheel. At first I tried just screwed to the wheel with the 4 40 screws and the set screw holding the wheel on the shaft but the set screw did not hold and the shaft would spin inside the wheel.
If I had drilled a hole in the shaft for the set screw to go into it may have held. And cut the lift arms out on a single plate that could bolt to wheel side as whole- a circular plate with 3 angled arms coming off - kind of like a 3 tooth saw blade.......if Probally would not need any welding.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00B887FX8?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_pd_title

If I was to build another one I would get a 90 power seat motor, 190 rpm (with the controller deal to slow it down) that has a larger shaft and would weld a piece to it to raise the hammer.
Like this :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgSc_QfIs24&app=desktop

If the little motor I have on it now wears out I will switch to the power seat motor and make it a double lift bracket/ lift arm - diamond shaped

I was out on benbrook in the beige crestliner by myself, i think i talked to you as you drifted by.
Im thumping with an old fishing pole and its working, but every time i catch one, i have to stop and they scatter
got 3 hybrids that weekend 2 x 17" and 1 x 18". All set free to catch again this summer
Benbrook should be good again if we avoid spring flooding

hope to have my thumper going this weekend to test it out (weather permitting)

would be nice if it worked for shad, cause its taking me hours to catch a dozen shad to fish with in 30+ ft of water
