Definitely the heavy hitters in Group B today. Wish I could watch them. Dang work I downloaded the MLF app, connected my phone to the WiFi at work. I'm streaming the Live but listening to it through a headphone more than watching it.

Personally, I enjoy the format. Its the big 5 mindset that is hard to break and a whole category of locals that tournament fish go out and fish the same way. What's my big 5? But for the majority including me, we go out and try and catch the best quality/quantity combination we can every trip. And that's what these guys are doing. 11 out of 40 didn't even catch 5. That's 27.5% of the field. Not sure what the limit is on that lake, but my guess had it been a traditional tournament there would've been 3-4 - 0's and another 10-15 with less than a limit to weight in. Only 12 caught more than 10. It wasn't an easy day no matter what tournament format you were fishing. Too many people look at the top 10 of the BASS and FLW leaderboards. Spend some time looking below that and you'll see that not all these guys are catching 20lbs daily. You nailed it. Also, comparing the "average" fish weight of 20-30 fish to the "average" fish weight in a 5 fish tournament is not apples to apples. Maybe BPT could add a stat line showing biggest 5 of the day? I'm betting a lot of these guys that had a 5 lb or better in their catch had 17-20 lbs for the day, which is what you'd probably see in a 5 fish tourney. I learn a lot more on the MLF format, seeing what guys do to adjust on the fly just to get a bite is more beneficial to me than watching someone drag a point for an hour hoping for a big bite. There is a big difference in what they would have had in a 5 fish tournament that can't be compared to what their best 5 would be at these events because most of them are fishing differently than they would in a standard event. You would have seen more guys flipping, throwing topwater or taking more time to look for fish on beds knowing they only need to get 5. It is kind of the mindset of fishing for points or just a check and/or fishing to win events. In Florida and Texas, you know that you need some serious weight to contend in a 5 fish tournament any time of the year. It is also similar to guide trips... the client that wants to book a guide to catch a 8-10lber is not typically going to catch 20+ bass a day. Yet when you fish tournaments in Florida or East Texas, you better have that mentality to fish for 5-10 bites targeting big ones or you are usually looking up at one of the hammers with a high 20-low 30lb sack while you have 10-13lbs but caught 30 that day.

Under 2lb average sounds riveting Whats the average fish weight from a bassmaster tourney? Well the leader in.south Florida in February sure ain't toting 5 2lbers to the scale you can bet your life savings on that. Good news is Aaron Martin's may become a force to be reckoned with. You are right about that for sure. Martins on the board with another 6lber this morning, let the dink fest continue. Well he's gonna have to beat that 1lb 15oz average.

Clark, I see your point and after thinking about it, I agree with it, mostly. I'd still like to see what the BPTs best 5 each day weigh. What was the average daily weight at the Harris Chain Open last week I wonder, did they fish 2 days or 3? I think it was 2. If so, 20-23 lbs a day was top 5, except for Stephens who ran away with it. I'm betting a lot of the BPT guys yesterday who had 6 lbers in their bags had 20-21 lbs for their best 5, which is close to being on on pace with the Open on Harris Chain (minus Stephens). Maybe they caught 2-3 lbers all day and lucked into a good fish. Who knows, food for thought though. I've never fished down there, is Kissimmee better or worse than Harris Chain?

That's not their best 5. That's their big fish with 4 of the average weight of the total caught. The guys with a 6 could have 3-4 5 lbers and a bunch of 2 lbers, bringing their average down. And it's not accurate either, your method should be a lower total weight. You have to subtract their big fish from the average if you're going to guess like that.

One thing that is consistent, even the guys that talk about how much they hate it are also watching.

They seem to have a better broadcast today, but still need to work on muting different channels to eliminate back ground noise or people talking over each other. (looking at you Marty Stone). Overall good improvement from day 1.
