My front hatch is a 10", and I'm wanting to change it out to a 17.25 x 10" oval to give me a little more room to get stuff in my Kayak better. Has anyone done this modification, I'm having trouble finding any hatch with the rim, except for the Valley Oval Hatch, which if its all I can find will be O.K., but I thought there must be some other brand that I just cant find. Up here in the Panhandle we don't have hardly any place that even knows what your talking about when you say Kayaks, there just aren't many places that carry anything. I've got the room and it looks like they fixed it to so you could add on. Thanks!!! [Linked Image]

That's pretty pricey for the rim and the hatch cover. Measure twice, cut once.

Go to the ACK website (Austin Canoe and Kayak) and look up accessories/parts.
They should have what you need, and their online orders ship fast. They also have a chat line if you have any questions.
Find a hatch type that you like on their website, and have them give you the exact measurements of the outside rim that will rest on the kayak.
They are knowledgeable, and will know what you need.

That's where I found the Valley Oval Hatch at, but I haven't tried the chat line. Thanks !!!

I've purchased items in the past from TopKayaker.

Amazon has a few that might be worth checking out.

Also, save the plastic you remove for the new hatch, you never know when you may have to patch your kayak.

That's a weird quirk on the old Heritage Redfish 14. They molded the bow for a large oval hatch (like what's found on the Redfish 12) but then installed a tiny round hatch. Never understood it.

Old hand me down molds, and company that bought them and producing are cutting corners.
Probably bought a large bulk lot of those hatches all the same size.

Its not a Redfish 14, Its the Angler 12, it 5 years old, that's what they came with, the newer models were changed to where they couldn't be changed to the bigger ones.
