Looking at buying a new reel, but Shimano is confusing me. You can buy a Curado 150 DC for $250, but a Chronarch 150G or Chronarch MGL for $280. The question is does either of the Chronarch's have the computer that the Curado does?

The Chronarchs are a proven excellent reel and that is what you are paying for. The Curado DC you are paying for the newest technology. With that said, so far the Curado is impressive. I bought one for my son a couple months ago (longevity is still to be answered) and it works as advertised. I flung a 3/8 spinnerbait on a 76 rod as hard as I could into a fairly stiff N wind and didnt thumb the spool until splash down. Did it over and over and didnt backlash once. Impressive.

The DC reels are awesome I have 4 of them and they perform flawlessly but not the the same braking system as the other ones mentioned

I use the Curado K across the board. I did get 2 DC 150's this year for wacky worms and small crankbaits. You basically cant backlash these things.

The digital cast control seems to whine as it's casting. Is this something I just need to get used to?

It's normal, I kinda like it.

Usually I would have just bought the Curado because its cheaper than the Chronarch, but with only a $30 price difference I thought it was worth debating.

Depends on who/what its for. I captain for two high school teams and I wish I had 20 of them, but I do not. I will definitely pick up a couple more. Let the boys use them as much as possible in their tourneys and I will use them for skippin and lightweight presentations in mine.

The Curado DC has got the new Digital Chip technology that makes it more resistant to backlash. However, the Chronarch has more bearings, weighs less, and has higher quality reel components. The Chronarch G is also compatible with saltwater whereas the Curado is not.

Come see me at the Tackle Counter at Fun N Sun Hurst and I'll be happy to let you get your hands on both and get a feel for which will suit your needs more.

Tight lines!

I just picked up two Metatanium DCs and I think the DC will be the standard in a few years. Theyre very impressive and Im glad I held out for them.

My buddy Michael was working the Shimano booth at the FunNSun show last weekend and took me outside and gave me a presentation of the DC reel. I still have my old Curados (some really old but still work great) but have been looking for a reel to start upgrading and pretty much got sold on this reel. After adjusting the fall of the bait we did everything from skipping a jig on the concrete to just heaving it as hard as possible against a really strong wind and I never thumbed the reel and also never got a backlash with it. Pretty impressive and was kind of surprised by the price of it. Thought it would be a little higher in price.
